"Best of CEO" Thread?
Re: "Best of CEO" Thread?
Holy cow, that was a wild ride. It took me a couple of days, but I got through the Jenny thread and am almost through the Attractive & Stylish thread.
Those two threads are definitely "best of" material. I got to around page 10 on each one and was like "Yeah, that IS pretty crazy. But there are 75 pages left. What could possibly top what I just read?"
Sweet summer child...
I need to cleanse my palate and go do some research on something like the easiest cars to find parts for, who has the best selection of almond milks, or how many floors up your apartment should be before mosquitoes don't come looking for you on the balcony. (Those are all literally on my list, btw.)
Many thanks for your suggestions so far. To push the conversation forward a bit more, I remembered a couple of cool threads I have read that no one has mentioned.
One was about a (British?) guy involved with a charity / school who was incarcerated for being a suspected molester. He was in jail for a couple of years, and at first everyone had their pitchforks out. Me included. He had some pretty creepy looking pics up on his Facebook.
But as time went on, it started looking more and more like he had been framed by the guy he started the school with, because that guy had been skimming donations and not helping the kids. The guy in jail had split off and was going to start doing something on his own, and was actually a really positive influence.
I think there was also a child advocacy group involved that was well respected at the time, but turned out that maybe they were setting up some innocent people vigilante-style so they could get more donations?
By the end of that one, I had sheepishly put my pitchfork away. Definitely "best of" material. Unfortunately, I can't remember the guy's name.
The other one I really liked was a nuanced discussion of the significance of various foot positions in temple reliefs and statues. Not super long, no drama, did not involve any pitchforks.

Also, thanks for letting me know the best parts of town for good pizza, hahaha!

Mark Smith, not sure it's who you are thinking of, but his is an amazing story.JoeExpat wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 5:19 pm But as time went on, it started looking more and more like he had been framed by the guy he started the school with, because that guy had been skimming donations and not helping the kids. We are friends on Facebook, he is a wonderful father to his two kids and despite everything, never lost his sense of humour or strength of character.

10 Tourists (British/Canadian/New Zealander) Arrested in Siem Reap for Pornographic Dancing
"by prahocalypse now "
This 41 page thread on some western tourists who were busted in Siem Reap for "pornographic dancing" is an epic saga, and despite the name, it's quite wholesome. (ie. No dead bodies) Also no photos on the first two pages unfortunately, so you will miss out on the photo of what is labeled as a "Naked Ginger". But it's a fun thread for all the family.

Not the one I had in mind, which was great for me because that means I got to read a new one!rozzieoz wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 6:04 pmMark Smith, not sure it's who you are thinking of, but his is an amazing story.JoeExpat wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 5:19 pm But as time went on, it started looking more and more like he had been framed by the guy he started the school with, because that guy had been skimming donations and not helping the kids. This was a good thread. It was interesting to watch the overall forum opinion go back and forth as the case progressed.
I tried to find the one I was referring to, but no luck so far. Made a good effort too. First I searched for posts containing "pedo." Then I re-remembered he was British so I gave "paedo" a try. Then I remembered reading "nonce" somewhere and gave that a shot.
Scrolled through every last page of search results too. I'm sure I am now on a list somewhere.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Re: "Best of CEO" Thread?
I loved reading the shouting teacher thread. Excellent suggestion. That guy was a trip. I liked having the subject of the thread actively participating IN the thread.Rockman Lover wrote: ↑Mon Feb 13, 2023 7:39 pm Here's the Mark Smith thread:

the Kieran Gajraj thread was also pretty good:
general-chatter/kieran-thomas-gajraj-ar ... lit=gajraj
Overall, I thought his story was plausible. But then again, he was also real-time arguing on CEO while constructing complex trigonometry problems until 5:30am on a school night? Totally not meth-y at all.
I was like, "get some sleep buddy! You gotta work in an hour!"
Thanks for the links!

Re: "Best of CEO" Thread?
This was a gripping read. I resisted the temptation to skip to the end because I was 100% sure something terrible was going to happen and I didn't want to spoil the surprise.
But it frustrated my expectations. Just a nice story about a guy achieving his dream of building an awesome house. I also learned a surprising amount of construction information I could see being useful in the future, even as a renter.
I like threads that aren't super dramatic like this. Thanks for suggesting this one.
