Because I'm not a chemist.........but an idiot

Yesterday afternoon for unknown reasons my pussycat pissed on the floor. Because I had nothing else at home, I had the great idea to disinfect the area with household bleach  :o

5 minutes later I was standing in a kind of fog - very aggressive to eyes and lungs. Opened immediately all windows and checked the internet.

That's the result:

There are several ways ammonia and bleach can react. All of them are dangerous.

Reaction type 1: Ammonia directly reacts with bleach to form hydrazine (N2H4, which, in addition to being extremely poisonous, can burn even in the absence of air! It explodes on contact with rust! 2NH3 + NaOCl -----> N2H4 + NaCl + H2O

Reaction type 2: Bleach hydrolyzes into sodium hydroxide and hypochlorous acid, which in turn decompose into chlorine gas and nascent oxygen (both poisonous). The chlorine gas in turn reacts with the ammonia to form chloramines, also very poisonous. NaOCl -----> NaOH + HOCl HOCl ---> HCl + O (monatomic oxygen) NaOCl + 2HCl -----> Cl2 + NaCl + H2O 2NH3 + Cl2 -------> 2NH2Cl (chloramine) 4NH3 + 2Cl2 ------> 2NHCl2 (dichloramine) 6NH3 + 3Cl2 ------> NCl3 (trichloramine or nitrogen trichloride)

Result: under no circumstances mix urine with chloride !!!!!

I like every dumbass kid on his own for the 1st time did this cleaning my apt at 18 or 19. I figured that Chlorine cleans pretty good. So does Ammonia. So together they must be awesome ! It was like being in a WWI trench for about 30 mins. I was right about 1 thing, the floor was sparkling after. I did something equally stupid a few years later. Cajun food was all the rage and I invited a gang over and I decided to make blackened Redfish. I got 2 cast iron pans red hot, dropped in the fish, and a giant toxic cloud filled the whole house. I had just virtually maced all my dinner guests and myself. Everybody was outside coughing, gagging, and taking turns with the hose washing out their eyes. Great party huh ? A few days later I asked my friend Mike a chef from New Orleans where I fucked up. He said when he was Sous Chef for Paul Prudhomme, everybody on the line wore gas masks despite the huge industrial HVAC overhead. Next time I attempted blackened whatever, I heated the pans up inside and cooked outside on the gas grill with a wet bandanna over my nose and mouth and ski goggles.

Try mixing it with water next time. 50/1 water/ bleach. Lol . Don't fuck around with caustic soda.

Stray Catz are shitting on my balcony, any suggestions? BB gun? Piss and bleach? or just buy a litter tray and make them run with too much love? I've always found if you want a cat to stay away you just have to ask it to come close?
I don't know what stray cats in PP eat, but it doesn't smell healthy.

I had to drag the ex missus' unconscious form out of the shower for this very reason (chlorine and ammonia, not cat urine) and was truly amazed. Not about her passing out, just that she was attempting to clean something.

I just made a test: I took fresh urine and mixed it with bleach........hardly any reaction. Will repeat same test tomorrow with 24 hours old urine. By then the ammonia content should be much higher with the outcome described above.

Please send me a sample of your urine. I expect a highly explosive outcome.
