Hello Everyone.

I came to the forum to ask a question and remembered this post and thought an update would be good manners.

Still completely ant free. I do keep the place cleaner, wiping up bread crumbs, or any food really. But it would appear the boric acid killed the nests and the job is - for now - still done.

Ant-Free is a possibility!

I also don't get many roaches, maybe one every two months? But maybe I'm just lucky, because I can't stand those ba*tards.

It's been just under eight months now and I still do not have ants. A combination of killing the nests and not leaving food crumbs etc around seems to have done the job. And if a different breed of ants, or a new nest appears, I'll lknow just to find out what they like, mix it with Boric Acid and kill the nests.

I think it's been a success - it's lovely.

I am under attack again. Major building works nearby have disturbed a lot of nests and they seemed to be on the move.

Talk me through the steak/water/boric acid recipe please. I have some beef in the fridge, but it's the good stuff. I could get some local road kill at the market and stick it through the grinder. What's the meat to water to acid recipe.

When people talk about ants in Cambodia, do they mean actual ants that bite you, the things we get in western countries also (or at least in the UK, especially in the summer) or do they mean those things that are about a quarter of the size but don't bite you and are just more of an annoyance?

I have suffered with the smaller ones, which I call ants, but I don't think they actually are ants. I'm not even sure if they're related to ants (the biting types). I don't think I've ever seen the biting types in Cambodia.

As for the smaller annoying ones, they usually walk in a line on a specific route, which you have to follow back and find where their access point is. Then I usually attack it with half a can of Raid. Sometimes works for a while, but they will often just find another route in.

I think it helps to work out what they're after. They work on scent, so something with a scent is attracting them. It's worth going to Bangkok shop and buying some cheap airtight containers to keep food in that's been opened. Also, keeping as much of your food in your fridge as possible helps too I find.

The little buggers show up erratically; they LOVE protein powder, have to keep it in the fridge. I just spray them with Windex. Kills on contact.

I think they have hacked my computer. I got up this morning and they have gone. Not one in sight.

Seriously though, I have been doing a bit of wiping down everything with Mr Muscle spray, and spraying (but not wiping away) under things like the microwave. Maybe bleach is on their list of dislikes.
