$150 a month in PP? No, thank you. I was paying $600 a month for a 3 bedroom house on a weird side street off Norodom - as long as you locked the windows and doors 24 hours a day - it was pretty decent, everyone else in the neighbourhood got robbed multiple times... don't think I'd repeat the experience to be honest. $750-$900 a month is a pretty good deal in central PP for something livable - I'd take the recommendation above.

Thanks Grinch,

Point Taken.

I understand if it isn't bolted down, chained up, locked or has no alarm fitted, possessions are very likely to go for a walk the instant you turn your back.

That has been plaguing my mind actually for the past few weeks actually, as I don't really know PP geographically as such, except to say that I am quite aware that there are some pretty dodgy areas.

Having experienced Thailand and having issues over there (or should I say much enlightened 'learning experiences') when I was younger, I would like to think that I am a little bit more street savvy than what I was then...

Hence I am looking to line up or have an idea on exactly what I am going to do for accommodation now; somewhere relatively central, affordable, safe and secure. I have done a lot of research myself, but am also listening to people who have first hand experience like yourself. So I do appreciate those who take time to reply and offer a bit of guidance in that respect. Obviously there can be a big difference between me carrying out some 'research' from another country and the 'reality' of it, but I am doing what I can.

I mean there is not a day that goes by where you don't read in the media about something going on, and that is probably just the reported incidents.

I think that the days of getting grossly inebriated and riding my motorcycle, catching a tuk tuk or motorcycle taxi home at 2AM by myself without at least knowing where the hell I am or the company I am with have probably passed. Even though I don't mind a beer - I just think that would be asking for trouble, especially when new to a country, LOL

I am little off topic here, I am not sure if I can say this, but it seems to me generally speaking, that that the majority of people who get into trouble seem to be highly intoxicated and/or on some kind of stimulant and just become an easy target, especially if they find themselves in a grab and run type situation or there are multiple offenders. I am not saying that is always the case.... Anyway.......

Maybe the "Mekong View", It looks quite nice, I am going to email them in the morning. I am not sure as yet, still looking, obviously trying to budget as best I can as well.

Thanks Again, Take it easy.

Kind Regards :hattip:

Agreed. Way too much. :stir:

hahahahaha - yes GM.

I might have a security issue, share accommodation and the WC is too far away.

Fair enough.....

It seems that accommodation is much more in PP than BtBang then. (depending what accommodation you get that is) - As I say, I am only by myself.....

You can find simple flats in riverside for $150-250/ month but you will have to do some legwork. Suggest you book your first week in a hotel or guesthouse and get to know the bars/restaurants and neighborhoods to see what area you like. Find a good tuk-tuk that knows the area and can drive you around. Look up and start calling the phone numbers on the rent signs.

Gavin...heed crummyjugglers advice above. Don't try to find an apartment before spending some time on the ground first, just stay temporarily at a guesthouse.

Vlad wrote a great guide to finding an apartment, I will try to find the link for you.

Awesome - thanks again fellas!

You are probably right there, if I did not go straight to my old man's house in Phuket and ended up in Bangers or Chiangmai, I would usually find a hotel for a day or 2 and look around, or stay at least for the short term.

For the moment at least, $200-$300 is probably more on my budget until I am settled and then go on from there... I would hate to blow all my money at nearly $1,000 a month, (I am on 'AUD' - not - 'USD' - which is approx 1/3rd more expenditure for me) - then have a stroke of bad luck and have to come back here - I don't really have any intention of returning unnecessarily. I am happy to do what I can to maintain that chain of thought...

Once I found this family who had a spare room, I had my own shower/entry/exit etc. I was paying $50 a week, it was clean, the people were polite, they learnt things off of me, I learnt off them - just a mutual respect 'kind of thing' and they basically left me alone to do what ever I wanted to do...

Maybe Cambodia is not so far removed from Thailand in that respect? (If I look around hard enough)....

Yes ok, cool, I am sure something may work out - maybe I shouldn't try to 'forcefully plan everything in my own head', so to speak, and let it go its own course?

No, it would be longer than 6 months, regardless....

I AM not going to divulge my financial position over the net. I appreciate your assistance...

I just don't wish to blow coin unnecessarily, it can become hard enough to earn coin from time to time...

Needless to say my "IDEAL" budget" would be between $150 - $250/300 p/m,

(In an ideal world........ if that was attainable.... $1,000 US ) ( I won't go here 'there' under this post - I need some honest advice there as well)

Anyway, at today's rate (18/2/16 - 8:30pm); $1000US = $1395AUD

Not that I am complaining, that is not this forum is about...

I am just saying that I would rather hold my cash close to my chest and close my wallet rather than pay $190K for a failing motorcycle rental company, a hotel or some f**ked up K-9 "security" business or invest something stupid. or pay $10K for that lizard barn!! that everyone criticized about lol

Hence, I have my eyes open. (I am open to verbal abuse now I guess??!!)

I see far more return longevity wise, saving my cash then spending a few grand on some 5 star hotel upon my arrival for 3 or 4 months ($3-6K - blown! - maybe more).... What for? I would like to put that cash to work in some kind of way....Make the cash work for you - not you have to work for the cash... (If that is correct??)

Just an opinion....

Am happy for others criticisms,

My personal thoughts only, I have looked.................... I am open to opinion....

I like you guys - you are the only ones who seem to "give a shit", or "just have an opinion, a great understanding", or both.....

Never any personal offence meant by me fellas, I only just joined this forum, you have already taught me so much already....

Kind Regards!
