Spot on with that one, except they are aspirers rather than survivors of that system in the main. I've seen it all before in Cannes, France. So many wannabees with a low fee paying education in a small private school, who in their minds think they have gone to Eton. Sad really.

That is quite insightful actually --- had never considered that factor as explaining the culture over there.

Agreed. I have underlined your use of the term "old crew", because I think people are confusing "Backslappers" with "Old Guard". They are not the same. There are several long-time posters there who are not "Backslappers".

Just off the top of my head, the following arelong timers (Old Guard) who were not backslappers ....

Vlad --- Maybe not everyone's cup of tea -- but definitely not a backslapper -- if anything an anti-backslapper --- one of the few (along with my relatively "New" self) to challenge and the status quo over there.

JM --- I sparred with him a bit because I thought he was a bit facetious at times when he rushed to Jacked Camry's defense on matters related to Israel --- but otherwise an informative poster who I think was respected by most.

Felgergarb: Seemed to post less and less but had some interesting comments at times and largely steered clear of the shit slinging.

Playboy and Scoffer: No idea what their banning activities were but generally always had a sense of humor and irony. Much needed on a forum where too many twats take themselves far too seriously

Falcon Randwick/Horace/ A couple of others -- that sometimes had some great stories and seemed to maintain their individuality rather than following a clique.

As to "Backslappers" -- that phrase was inspired by watching a silly crew "liking" each others posts as they twittered away and gang-banged you and I on the "Destitute Brits" thread ...

Newer Poster (Wannabees): Alan Clarke, GMJS, Marvin
Admin (Ironically): Scoobz and Joon. Joon was a good poster but it seemed she got very political in a "which way is the wind blowing" way of wanting to fit in. Scoobz -- for some reason has a need to be "accepted" by the core clique there and his lack of vision and leadership as to running the forum reflects this.

I am sure I have left a few names off of both lists -- but this is more or less how I see it. It is not "Old Poster" Vs "New Poster" ..... it is petty, insecure, territorial posters (and their wannabees) against anyone who challenges them.

I think Franklybent is on to something with his "boarding school mentality" comment. The real issue is a gaggle of posters following each other around "Liking" each other and a Forum owner who (ironically) wants to join their "club" and thus protects them from being challenged.
