What make khmer440.com Cambodia forum so infamous?

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

We are not the KR (on any forum.) :please:

However, some "new" members are just sock puppets who come here to break up threads and create strife. Chill out all.

Wrong. A handful of posters who got booted out of K440 now post on here, whilst at least 100 posters still use 440 daily. Some use both. This website is merely a rebel faction of k440 and includes some newcomers who are in the 'with'em or against'em' crowd, mostly in against em, without knowing thew backstory.

Interesting how some of the 'against ém'folks are back over there posting, even after swearing never to do so again.

The fact is, as goiod as CEO is, it's still not K440 and most likely never will be. Just looking at the traffic will tell you that, and, as much as some hate, people want content and dialogue.

I'm happy to read/post on both, but the one sided one up man-ship from this end needs to stop, because it's boring and wrong.

The fact is, as goiod as CEO is, it's still not K440 and most likely never will be.

TOF is mainstream, has been around for years, and has a lot of users that give great imput for people who live outside Cambodia. It is a much bigger forum than CEO, but it is not "user-friendly" for everyone.

I'm not sure what the goals are for CEO, but I see this site as an alternative to K440, not as an enemy. CEO is a good forum, open for discussion from more or less anyone. Probably more open to new posters than the good old Kforum.
But, just sometimes, posters from K440 come here to post shit. Why ? Life is bored ? The idea of revenge between forums should be over by now - on both sides.

There are more and more expats in Cambodia - there should be enough room for everyone. We are not all identical. It is always surprising to see posters from TOF coming here to complain that we are boring or whatever. Get over it or f'k off.

I don't post on your forum or the expat housewives forum, but I've got nothing against anyone preferring one forum to another. A lot of people post on several forums. Live and let live; the more the merrier - and hey f'k, it's just internet forums. :OD:

Thank god for that.

A lot more people USED TO love Khmer440, myself included. It used to be wild and crazy, but let's face it, it's more of a bore these days.

Many people who make K440 what it once was are either dead or gone.

No offence to Scobie, but the most exciting thing that's ever happened to him is he maybe drunk a glass or 2 too many wine glasses and saw a fight on street 172, LoL.

We saw early on that Khmer440 was going down in quality and started CEO. Yes, as a relatively new site, increasing traffic is a challenge, but we're doing good! Also, their " session timeout time" looks to be about double ours, so it's going to look like they have more "online users" than we do, but even if traffic were the same, they would "look" like they have double. (Long story short, we did that a few months ago to take the load off our servers, until we work out some things.)

I'm clearly biased, but I think it's fair to say that most people have had bad experiences there, in the distant past or more recently. From what I see, Scobie still has the tendency to get as close as he can to "outting" members as he can, and other random things that some don't appreciate.

Either way, we run CEO as fair as humanly possible, and I think that's paid off in the long run.

Again, not to knock K440, but the place will never get back to its glory days, and it seems on track to just get more bland.

I'm also glad that many people post on both, and the "forum wars" seem to be non-existent these days. They do have a "front page" over us, but imho most the recent content there is a bore and seems more like redundant travel literature I've read time and time again.

It also goes without saying that they've really had to change their ways in order to "keep on top" once CEO came onto the scene.

The biggest decLine for me has been the long-time posters who just aren't what they used to be over there. KiR, dead. Gavin, getting nastier and more bitter by the day. Scobie, meh. He banned Vlad, said he's never welcome back, realized his mistake, then asks him back, LoL. Chuck Wow, on a short leash. Ricecakes, gone. AiA seems too busy giving 2-star generals lap dances, LoL, which on second thought is actually a good thing for Khmer440. Cambod, that silly bastard left and never looked back.

Basically, it's been digging its own grave for a while now, and was bought out by someone who just wanted people to stay and post content to make money off the site, and that's kind of they have over there now. SCC and Rain Dog banned for whatever nonsense. They do have Jessie though, LoL.

We've had to deal with trolls over here, but we've never felt the need to out them like the admin does to telesales over on Khmer440. I actually appreciate that trolls like to post on CEO, but they need to understand that we have a responsibility to the community to keep things fun and friendly here. And when we ask them to leave, that's it, we don't take the opportunity to bash them or ridicule them, etc.

And no harm intended for any individuals I've named, just the overall way I view Khmer440 these days, and there's just so many random reasons I think it's lost it's luster for many people.

There were quite a few when CEO first started, but there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then, which Kompong Spooner hasn't noticed.

These days there are a several posters posting on both forums without any issues. ( In some cases they have a completely different persona on each forum, in some cases not).

Khmer 440 is infamous due to its previous owner and his style of running things (his way).

I sort of think both forums generally have had their time. There are only so many questions that can be asked and answered, only so many feuds fought. Cambodia, as a country is not what it was a few years ago, in the sense of being an as edgy, dangerous or adventurous as it used to be. I've only been here 3 years (cue the hisses and chants of " NewbeeNewbeeNewbee") but I am noticing that each years new crop of expats are becoming blander and the old crop are trying harder and harder to hang on to their memories of what it used to be and how much tougher and harder they were/are , but seem unable to evolve along with the country.
I tend to use the forum now as a way of meeting and then keeping in touch with mates that live out of town and then for organising a meetup when we happen to be in the same place at the same time.Yeah, your internet persona has an impact on my take on you as much as I'm sure mine does on you. I've met a number of you in real life and its actually incredible sometimes how different you are to your keyboard mask. Often for the better, sometimes for the worse. Maybe I'm getting old ( well, yeah, actually I'm starting to!) But I prefer the old school way of one on one interaction. I very much more enjoyed having a REAL beer with Mr & Mrs Stroppy today then just sending a :beer3: emoticon on a forum. I would also much more enjoy having a real fistfight with someone, rather then sending them a fisticuffs emoticon ( just looked and saw there isn't one on this site - that makes me feel GOOD about CEO actually!).
Anyways, that's my rant for tonight. I will HOPEFULLY be at Garage on the 31st and will happily debate my views with any of you that are interested. Otherwise I'll just sit in a corner and get pissed on my own!

scobienz wrote:Right. It didn't take long for Vladimir to resort to type with insults and assorted bollocks. As such he has gone for a month and if he breaks his promise not to ever post here again and returns he will be treated as an unwelcome guest with absolute zero tolerance for his bullshit.
scobienz wrote:Vlad' return is odd because he has been slamming 440 on CEO for the last few months and I still have his messages to me from the middle of May swearing he would never post here again.

Considering how often he tells everyone how much a man of honour and integrity he is, I can only assume someone has managed to hack his account and the real vlad knows nothing of this imposter.
scobienz wrote:This vlad baiting is getting a bit tedious. Fuck knows I have had my run ins with him in the past but he has done his time in the cooler and it's about time we drew a line in the sand and moved on (on both sides)...
If ^ that isn't saying he's unwelcome to return to Khmer440, then turning around and doing a complete 180 degree about-face and saying, "Vlad, please come back," I don't know what you'd call it, LoL.

Complete with disclosing the contents of Private Messages sent to him from Vlad in infamous Scobie fashion, LoL. He just can't stop himself from continuing to violate the trusted privacy of his members when he's upset with them. Ouch. Image

You won't see that shit on CEO. We even respect the privacy of the likes of Francis, General Chatter, etc.

CEO's privacy policy: We respect your privacy. :hattip:

Khmer440's privacy policy: We usually respect your privacy, UNLESS you piss us off.

Well, in fairness, I do see a difference between allowing him to return and asking him to return.
