Voting against the elite ("How dare they!")
The *Comment is Free* part of Al-Grauniad occasionally prints succinct and insightful comments from readers - NEVER from the know-it-all savants:
Working class wages destroyed. The wages of the low paid lowered. Ordinary people robbed of holiday and sickness pay. Working people priced out of ever owning their
own home. Our city centres socially cleansed of the working class. Poor people forced to fight like rats in sacks with even poorer foreigners for jobs, housing, school places
and social and health services.
But yeah, they voted against the elite because they are "stupid".

No they voted for a white power fascist because they are desperate and found his facile rants soothing.

As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Re: Voting against the elite ("How dare they!")
Me and the online dictionary obviously don't have the same definition of ''élite'' as BOM.
Btw BOM, where is the link and what is the subject ? Which ''(non)-elite'' politician are you referring to ? Donald Trump or Boris Johnson ?
Both are great examples of the spoilt rich. I think the working classes are going to be disappointed.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/eliteelite
noun \ā-ˈlēt, i-, ē-\
Simple Definition of elite
: the people who have the most wealth and status in a society : the most successful or powerful group of people
: a person who is a member of an elite : a successful and powerful person

People who are incapable of evaluating the basic truth as it unfolds before them fall upon seantic bullshit. "Ye who pore over the dead letter miss the spirit of things.". Sorry Betros, what you want to believe never really existed beyond the crumbled parchment it was written on.

that presupposes people are cable of said argument (we in the US aren't so assuming-but that's ok). in the USA, that is not a prerequisite (for right or wrong), only that you vote (or act within the current laws) on you own accords. and it is this why we so bravely embrace and defend. not everyone is a "rocket scientist"!taabarang wrote:"The USA is the very defo of the opposite (antonym).

"incapability" of evaluating (the truth or otherwise), as you so prudently point out, is only part of the decision making process and, for right or wrong, understanding is not a requirement. yeah...catch 22.
when we are able to support our own opinions... again, for right or wrong (what ever that may mean or actually be) with in the current law is us-- we can change that as WE see fit. who else can? I'd paraphrase Lincoln here, but you prolly know it...right?
this has not always been 100% the best option/result (see Adams, 'sedition'--I openly admit), but it, so far, has been the best. your counter argument?
compare US to others, anywhere, anytime, anyplace (I realize we are a young sort). I stand by what I have stated.
as for the crumbled parchment it's written on.... dare name a better document? (ok, maybe the Magna Carta, but after that?)
go on, name it?
BTW, (this may be one of those urban myths, but I like it and I've read up on both), Alex Hamilton (maybe my favorite of all the framers), heard one of Thomas Jefferson's ideas (these guys seriously hated each other, big time, like you read about-anyways) that he did not agree with, he famously said, "while I fine you're ideas to be wrong, I will defend to the death your right to have it!" well, that'd be us then. just sayin'
cheers (because I can)

Re: Voting against the elite ("How dare they!")
The initial quote came from someone-or-other in the *Comment is Free* part of Al-Grauniad.
Very frequently, the contributions by readers are smarter and more perceptive than the original short article - this is a contribution in response to
an article by George Monbiot:
... while the victory of Trump is nothing for Democrats to celebrate, there are two huge victories all true progressives should rejoice in because of Clinton’s defeat:
1. TPP is dead for the foreseeable future. If Clinton had won, TPP would have passed in the lame duck session, and there would be no impediment in the way of Congress eventually passing TTIP and a raft of other horrible pro-corporate, anti-worker, anti-consumer trade treaties. Under Trump, their chances are slim to none, esp. if progressives unite in Congress and at large both to oppose them and to encourage Trump to renegotiate NAFTA and other treaties already passed by traitorous neoliberal Democrats in collusion with Republicans.
2. The no-fly zone in Syria seems unlikely now. Had Clinton won, the US would now be revving up for a confrontation with Russia that could easily lead to war, all with an eye to putting al Quaeda-in-Syria into power. But if Trump follows through on what he said in the campaign, there may soon be a pro-Assad alliance with Russia that will see us fighting alongside Russia against ISIS and al Quaeda-in-Syria. If this were to happen, it might even break America free of its far too tight embrace of Saudi Arabia, lead to a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine war, and possibly eventually see an end to Cold War Two.

Here is someone in the INDEPENDENT rolling in self-abasement
The MSM were pro-Sniperfire all the way - PLUS - they were convinced that Sniperfire would win

Thanks Boozy, good article. Don't you just love it here when non-Americans show their ignorance as to the ways of us Americans. I see it as mental masturbation by a bunch of non-Americans with too much time on their hands (or in their hands.)
