No...just not about taking pride in "the British Empire", as they were also previous victims of the English mentality of conquest.StroppyChops wrote:The Scots and the Welsh are too tight to give attitude, aren't they?Soi Dog wrote:It would be more of an English attitude than a Scottish or Welsh attitude.

Re: Top Gear Forced to Flee Argentina
Over here in the States we have BBC America, which is really just Top Gear on a continuous loop. At first I thought it was funny but not anymore.
Actually its all a bit dumb really as Americans only drive automatics so maybe the US version should be called "One Gear".

You don't make sense. They mock how crap British cars are, the Brit car industry, and generally everything that's British. I think most Brits agree we are a poorly ran, crap nation, with crap weather, and are pissed we aren't better. That's hardly an imperial swagger. He mocks working class Brits in his writing. In fact, everything and everyone, that is different to his privileged existence. He is an overbearing snob.Mr Curious wrote: but I can't see how you have not seen posts by guys talking about how folks should see it their way, the proper civilized way an so on. I never said I think most or even that many think this, I just know I've seen it. and obviously the Argentinians believed this was going on with Top Gear.
I do agree that the numberplate was deliberate. It's the sort of childish and offensive humour those middle class twits enjoy.
I'm not going to argue. You are free to think all Brits have an empirical swagger if you like. But even if you just go by the Scottish indy vote, almost half of Scots want away from the UK. They want nothing to do with England, and it's past or present wars.
This is who Clarkson represents.

Now your Stephen Fry, there is a shining example of Home Counties wit.
Clarkson is an utter oaf.

That plate was a disgraceful attempt at humor which shows utter contempt for your hosts. They got off lucky.

Re: Top Gear Forced to Flee Argentina
them (tg, clarkson) said that it was not deliberate but it's a common theme on TG to have plates that could spell out amusing insults
if the plate is from the car originally then they must have searched for a while for it!!

Re: Top Gear Forced to Flee Argentina
you obviously have an ax to grind and can NOT see what I write. I REPEAT...at NO TIME did I even imply that all, most or even many Brits have this view. It's NOT about what the Top Gear guys say about the English. You continue to ignore my point that it can be seen a lot in any forum with many English in it. I'm done with this You don't see my point and wish to argue your own with irrelevant points like what Clarkson says.UKJ wrote:You don't make sense. Yes, I think the plates were intentional too and maybe the types I'm speaking are the childish and offensive humour middle class twits you mention. Also OBVIOUSLY the Argentinians do NOT care what they say on the show but saw the plate as MAJOR insult.
My point is valid. While I see your point it does not apply to mine. There ARE guys out there on forums who trumpet everything British while totally ignoring everything you have mentioned, the foreign policy and crap cars, etc. I would say maybe loudly proud about the best of the past. Same kinda guys can be found going on about the USA. Which I think is probably MORE of a crap country at this point. I would however take a Chevelle over an MG (1969 era). I do however like my 99 Chevy S10 pickup with a 4 banger.
