some people believe EVERTHING they are told or read on the web, some people believe NOTHING they are told or read on the web. There is room in the middle, you just need a rational mind and a bit of common sense. Of course governments conspire, lie and hoodwink people, but sorting out the chaff from the grain is not too difficult.

The question about conspiracy theories is WHY do people believe many of them?
