Re: The weak points of Cambodian
I think 1 is ok for me and I always guide some people how to find what they want to find in the map. If we want to read the world map, we have to know the direction of the map , continents then big countries. :p
For me 2,3 and 4 yeah , I'm poor in them. I fail Chemistry and Biology subjects, but I could pass my Bac II. Lucky me!!
I think many people know about direction but I don't know it at all besides I'm at my house. So don't talk about direction to me, otherwise I'll get lose.
I'm included in number 4 too. I can't post any picture in CEO and many functions I don't know. But I think I'm a learner. A bit slow learner. At least I can do many things more than my friends. Once I joined photo contest but most of my friends couldn't vote for me because they don't know how to vote so I lose many voices (( I not wonder because most of time my classmates and colleauges asked me to help them with their smart phones or computers. Hehehe I'm not good in it but I spent much time on searching them. If it does not work, I go to ask my brother to help. ))

Number 1 is fine with me too. Most of the time when people just call out the name of the country i already know that where those countries located. I have a lot of respect for those created a map, such a very useful tool to see the whole world.prahkeitouj wrote:I think 1 is ok for me and I always guide some people how to find what they want to find in the map. I am bad at number 2, 3 and 4 too. I also failed chemistry subject too during Bac II exam. It was the only subject i failed. I should have paid more attention in class. I am still regret that i failed that subject. When it comes to the direction in PP, i am completely clueless. It is really ashamed as i have been living here long enough to be able to know all the direction. Some barang i know, they actually knew all the direction in Phnom Penh just after arrived in Cambodia for one month.

It's not all that difficult. Nearly all maps have a basic format. If there is writing on the map, check it is the right side up. The left side of the writing will be west. The right side will be east. Up will be north, down will be south. Nearly all the streets in Phnom Penh run in a general North-South direction, for example Monivong, or East- West, for example Russian Boulevard.prahkeitouj wrote:I think 1 is ok for me and I always guide some people how to find what they want to find in the map. If you are standing on the ground, think about which direction the sun comes up- this is East. Where it goes down is West. From these two directions you should be able to figure out the others.
I don't know how people manage without knowing basic directions, they are one of the first things I try to figure out when I get somewhere. It's pretty lame for anyone in the 21st century to make excuses and say they can't tell directions.

You can do an experiment John, get 10 Cambodian both local of PP and those from the provinces and ask them if they know the direction in Phnom Penh.John Bingham wrote:It's not all that difficult. Re: The weak points of Cambodian
During that time, i went to many villages in Oddarmeanchey. It was really terrible. A lot of youth age from 15 to 18 years couldn't read. They didn't have a chance to go to school as there is no school in their villages. Moreover, there villages are far from the state school, so most of them couldn't manage to go to school. In addition, their parents don't understand the benefit of sending their children to school. Most of them are now working in the cassava farms, illegally entered to Thailand to log timber and to work in Thailand. I heard a lot of cases which some of the villagers were shot to dead by the Thai military.StroppyChops wrote:NiceSamouth wrote:Right. I think John was trying to give you some good advice there. And, it's very simple.Samouth wrote:You can do an experiment John, get 10 Cambodian both local of PP and those from the provinces and ask them if they know the direction in Phnom Penh.John Bingham wrote:It's not all that difficult. Let's say that we are at Phsar Thmei. I know that if I head north, I will come to Calmette hospital.
If I head south, I can get to Sihanouk Boulevarde.
East will always take me to the river.
West can get me to the airport, and southwest will get me to Steung Meanchey, etc.
John was saying that if you know where North, South, East, West are, you can find your way around easily.
