the Christian fucks that approach me while I am eating need to be taught a lesson. When I replied that I was not interested the fucker kept on about it "Some people may not want to accept the gifts Jesus is giving to them." FFS I am eating my delicious Lucky Burger.
I maintained my politeness but was quite annoyed by the intrusion. I wonder if you all would have reacted the same? I think if they started trying to talk to my misses I may have reacted harshly.
I never really understood the logic in the religious people. They are either in that cult because they were brought into it by their families or they had some kind of "sign" such as a voice in their heads.
If there is a god how do i know which religion (if any) is the correct one to choose? I am not insane and therefore don't have all the voices in my head the religious people do.
It would be nice if your god stopped whacking off while evil people are still out there hurting innocents. Thanks god. Thanks for everything you selfish shithead.

I often ask people of faith if they have considered their belief stems purely from the randomness of their goeographical location. If they had been born in India they would have been a hindu, Indonesia a moslem, Tibet a buddhist, somewhere else an animist.
If there indeed were a god he is either impotent or doesn't care to stop the suffering. However, lets not forget the good book where he shows very obviously he is “ ....the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.†Richard Dawkins

That's true. However I think the significance of Jesus using it is in the context, not that it may have been new and novel. The Jewish scholars were trying to trap him using the law and asked him what was the greatest commandment of Judaic Law. He gave the expected answer, "To love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul" and it was expected that this was the complete answer. However he then went on to say the famous bit, "The second greatest commandment is to love your neighbour like yourself" - this may have been used elsewhere in history, but the next bit is significant. He said, "All of the Law and Prophecy (that is, the Old Testament scriptures that people like to quote in isolation as "the Bible") hang on these two commandments" - Literally that when you're applying the laws of the OT, now you are commanded to do it in love, and as you would want others to apply it to you. That is, grace, mercy, compassion, etc. that had no place in interpreting the laws of the Jews in the OT.Rain Dog wrote:Actually the Golden Rule predates Jesus Considerably.Soi Dog wrote:Doesn't The Golden Rule pretty much sum up all society's concerns about how best to live? Hmmm.
It is beginning to smell like there is a bit of a soft sell evangelical movement going on around here.

Soft? Clearly 'we' are not trying hard enough. We're all in on it, even the so-called agnostics. We're using peer group pressure, and we're planning a tent crusade on Riverside once we get corporate sponsorship and the competition from the protesters eases off. Can I put you down for a tenner?Tim Linkinwater wrote:Hmmm.

The bible is slave morality. I doubt much of the detail is still relevant.Kung-fu Hillbilly wrote:Made me think of the commandments and what a poor effort they were from a supposed all knowing entity. I think it fair to say almost anyone in the world could come up with a better list of "thou shalts" and "thou shalt nots" in a few minutes.
How about "protecti chidren and bring to them no harm"? Nope, an almighty knowing god thought children should be stoned to death for not obeying their parents. Deuteronomy 21:18-21
