The great pronoun debate of 2023

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

The great pronoun debate of 2023

Post by Freightdog »

Having spent a weekend fixing the world over far too many glasses of spirits, we got to discussing the current state of humanity. It would seem that what was funny is now pc agenda. Meh

Bring it on. Don’t be offended, or do.

First-world problems... some people just love to be outraged. I remember before the internet and social media were really a thing you'd occasionally see something on the news - people going over the top protesting about animal rights /veganism/feminism/environmental issues/politics or whatever. Most people would just roll their eyes, comment to whoever was with them about what a pack of dickheads they are, then forget about them and carry on with their lives. Those issues don't affect 99 % of the population and you never even saw those kinds of people in real life, if they didn't get a 30 second mention on the evening news you wouldn't even know they existed.

I feel like the pronoun thing is just the more modern equivalent, except that now we have the internet more people get to be offended.

I personally don't see what the big deal is, if some dude in a dress wants to stand on a soap box and tell the world he has the 'right to get pregnant' or something I just don't care, can't be bothered listening to it, and luckily I don't need to because in real life I'd just never encounter him, or if I did it'd be a rare thing and I'd probably have a good laugh over it.

What does astound me though is the people who make their identity all about being outraged by someone they saw on the internet who is offended that people don't recognize their pronoun. I know a few of these people in real life and all they can talk about is pronouns, grooming, and how much 'they' are taking over the world. It gets boring pretty fast.

Meanwhile people got AR-15's killing kids but some would rather talk about banning books and deal w/ pronouns.
Manhattan keeps on making it, Brooklyn keeps on taking it

Life of Brian was ahead of the times in 1979 with the "he, or she" debate.

But in those days you could take the piss out've anyone or anything - parrots, being dead, norwegians, lumberjacks ...

And the parrot is supposedly a "he" ?
