Sunday: Are we so anti-Christian we're turning pro-Islam?

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

OD, you worship at the altar of alcohol, which seems to be the epicenter of your universe. So you go drinking with good 'ol boy Stropps and you're fast friends. Never trust a bloke who don't drink, right?
I went out drinking one night with G Mack and Strops and Mrs Strops. We then became friends. That is one common way people become friends, Dags.

Seriously, your bullshit and love affair with Stroppy's religion is getting old.

I have to wonder, Dags, what it is you want from this forum? Sincere question. You are obviously not here to make any friends. If you don't care about that, so be it. So... what's your story man? Why are you in Cambodia? Why do you post on this forum?
Alcohol is apparently your best friend as well. So it goes.

Stroppy's (not so) hidden agenda is what is getting old.

Stroppy is not here to "make friends", mate. He is here to convert - he is a missionary. Not a drunk like so many others here...

He's on this forum (as the most prolific poster) to (cleverly) spread his cult's version of the gospel...i.e. this thread...

I'm on this forum for the same reason everybody is..to express my views...

I have plenty of friends, but the vast majority aren't drunks. So it goes..

You thought my reference to circuses and monkeys was deflection? Sorry, I assumed the inference would have between clear.

You claim to prove some bigotry and intolerance in me in previous posts but then you decide you'll filter the discussion by 'not dwelling on it further'. In a free-expression forum you don't have that luxury, as the respondent can refer to past discussions too. Pretending to be on high ground doesn't actually give you the high ground, nor make you right in your accusations.

Circuses and monkeys. Quite simply, it's a more gentle analogy for "you clearly have some personal problems in this area, they are not my problems, and I will not carry the pain of your problems for you." I was compassionate towards your whole "lost my Muslim girlfriend because of 9/11 and the bigots who didn't understand us" history, but your response to my care was to attempt to sink the boot in and figuratively beat me with your high-ground olive branch.

I'm not normally this blunt when people are hurting emotionally, but based only on what you shared previously (but now don't want to dwell on) you might want to look more inwardly at why your relationship ended, and less at using 9/11, Christianity (whether real or false) and those that you deem bigots and Islamophobes (which, according to you, includes me). Simply, you were a part of that relationship too, and if I understood your earlier posts correctly, neither of you died in the attack.

Emotional hunting season on me is over, RD. If you want to play moral superiority religious wargames, that's fine. But at least be honest about it being driven by your failed relationship. Pretending to be Islam's only knight around here is a little lame, especially given you're not Muslim. You might recall I ended up having a completely civil conversation with the other guy in that thread... you know, the one who actually IS Muslim? Although you seemed to lose interest once the Christian had apologised to the Muslim and discussion had turned amicable.

If I remember correctly you mentioned discussing further over a beer some time. Still happy to do so.

Ah, sorry - I fronted the trial by forum some time back and assumed you were in the audience. I'll find the link when I'm in front of a PC but short answer is that I do not ever teach beliefs in any class other than one clearly titled as Theology or similar. I don't believe it's right to do so.

For my part, I just think way too much space is taken up on this site by the promotion/discussion of Christianity, and I'm almost certain the same space would not be tolerated if Islam were being promoted.

The discussions are always started in a subtle kind of way and then develop into arguments and platforms to sell the religion.

It's not my site, and as part owner, OD has clearly stated his allegiances, perhaps even GM as well, so I guess I will have to tolerate it.

I have met the Stroppy Chopses, and they are both nice people, but I do find the technique of raising the discussions somewhat worrying and even bordering on devious. It saddens me.

The 'with us or against us' is transparently an argument that is designed to divide humanity and create an environment for strife, and should be consigned to the arms manufacturers' toilet where it belongs.

My last word on this, I hope.

I'm not opposed to discussion of the subject in an adult manor... however I am opposed to the attacking of individual members on the basis of their religious beliefs. I'm an atheist... far and wide. Though I find the subject of religion a fascinating one in regards to human psychology and sociology and don't at all think my beliefs (or lack of them) should be forced down someone else's throat. Just as I wouldn't tolerate Stroppy or his missus doing so with theirs. The exception we have here id dengaham doing so with his, and personally attacking anyone who opposes him or points it out. It's over the top, and a warning has been issued. Continued behaviour will result in a ban.

Well done, Vlad, calm and sane words. Better than I can do - that's for sure. As I have said before, Stroppy is a master at his craft. The most effective missionary is one like himself, a regular bloke who drinks a beer or two and never overtly tries to "convert" anyone.

Be not fooled. His main job is to spread the gospel and convert in whatever way is most successful (see Church of Christ website for more info about his "sponsors"). Stroppy has very wisely used alcohol as the bonding currency with many members of this forum because almost everybody here is a "serious drinker". As "Quality" so wisely said, drinking facilitates relationships. In PP, in particular, this is true, oh so true.

And that's fine as long as you aint a drunk (in my opinion), as I drink myself. For Stroppy, it's a tool and he uses it well. He aint no drunk - he is a man on a crusade and Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Animists, and even other Christians from other denominations are his "marks".

He must admit, and cannot avoid, admitting to his belief that everybody is either going North or South when they die - South if they aren't on his program...he has work to do "saving souls" and he is doing it right now in PP on this here forum...

WTF? This is a new low encountered by me on any of these forums that you want to turn this into a personal attack based on old relationships and old girlfriends. FFS. Advice: Leave wives, current girlfriends and ex-girlfriends out of your attacks -- if you cannot address the issues and you need to attack me instead, it just shows the weakness of your argument.

News for you mate: 911 was a long time ago and I have long since moved on from that relationship. The only reason I shared that bit of personal history was to explain why I have a different perspective on all the Muslim hating encountered online and elsewhere --- and yes the experience did leave an imprint on me.

I sure as hell don't need relationship advice from you nor to be told to "look inwardly" at anything. Since we have never met you have no reason to infer whether I am "hurting" about anything nor do you have any right to claim I should censor my criticisms at Islamophobes because I am not a Muslim. By your logic, only Jews have a right to complain about antisemitism and only blacks have a right to complain about KKK (?). FFS.

And enough with the Christian persecution complex already. It has never been "Emotional Hunting Season" (To use your words) on you.

You post a lot of religiously bigoted shit. Sometimes I call you on it.

Let's try again (third time).

You tell your Aussie Mates that they need to Choose between Australia being a Christian Country or a Muslim country and that if they don't choose that they are choosing Islam by default (?)

This is clearly a call to action. So what do you want them to choose (in Choosing Christian against Muslim)? How should they demonstrate this choice? What does your vision of an exclusively "Christian" Australia entail? How does the status quo need to change?
