Sunday: Are we so anti-Christian we're turning pro-Islam?

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

I like Stroppy's views; balanced, yet there's an opinion in there (noone is truly balanced in terms of an opinion, otherwise it's not really an opinion). I honestly believe that people are attacking him because they just can't accept that his "base understandings" differ slightly to theirs. Dagenham et al can't cope with the fact that he's a moderate Christian and thus brings such into his worldview. They're unknowing victims of my most despised indoctrination method - make the average Joe believe that your opinion is a "base understanding", and they'll violently fight against any other opinion. Both the religious types and the atheists have been guilty of this; it seems the atheists are winning these days.

It does indeed. Thanks for your summation, SP.

(Sorry, I'm rubbish at chopping bits out of multi-quoted posts).

What rise in anti-Christianism? Is there one? This strikes me as a very vain position - the victim, the martyr, the persecuted etc.

People have always hated Christians, chucked them to the lions, burned and crucified them etc. and they have thrived on it: turn the other cheek, call your enemy brother.

I don't hate them; don't really notice them.

I disapprove of missionaries, yes, because they are generally boring, smug and harbour deep and barely contained urges for violence and sexual weirdness in my not very limited experience of them.

LOL! And we've thrived on it! Yeah, that's all true enough. Personally I'm not into the victim/martyr thing although I do know exactly what you mean. Yes, absolutely there's an anti-Chrisitianity thing on the go in Oz at the moment, for example check the local media for what's happening with School Chaplaincy programs.

Bit of a sad indictment on the Christians around you, I'm afraid. They're there, possibly just too 'shy' or mainstream to stand out. In my view Christians should stand out, not because they preach at you incessantly, but because they actively try to improve the world for no reason other than they like people.

That's been my experience of Christian ministers while growing up.

I would argue that it's trendy to bash Christians these days.

And 11 out of 12 disciples would agree it was quite the thing a couple a thou years ago.

Nail.On head.

Indefensible OD, you can reason all you want, but you know and I know.

Isn't that true in life, the things we vocalise so much about are the things we fear becoming?

And then we do.
