Study finds weed 114x less deadly tha alcohol
Thought we could do with some cheerful news
(And I'm sure that we can find a study for next week which will show a drug that is 114 times as deadly as alcohol - surely? Maybe new studies are needed ? LOL)

It's easy to imagine what would happen were alcohol discovered today, with reports of 'NEW KILLER DRUG' plastered all over the tabloids as terrified witnesses reported seeing "addicts" staggering around the streets, falling down, wailing and vomiting in the gutter.
And yet alcohol is completely legal in the UK, while cannabis remains a class B drug – upgraded from class C in 2009 when it was deemed more harmful.
A new study published in Scientific Reports, a subsidiary of the journal Nature, which sought to quantify the risk of death associated with the use of various intoxicating substances, has found however that marijuana is far and away the safest drug.

Can't be bothered reading the article, but if I start eating happy pizzas now and give up the beer, I'll live 114 times longer? Like WOW man.

"Smoking weed is of course not "safe, full stop", but studies have found time and time again that it is indeed "safer than alcohol"."

Yes, really. Nobody has ever died from an overdose of marijuana. Not even one. It doesn't hurt your liver the way alcohol does and you can consume it through vapor or food, meaning you don't even have to breathe smoke if you don't want. Marijuana being safer than alcohol has long been acknowledged in the medical and scientific community. Drinking too much alcohol ruins lives, whereas smoking too much weed might make you a little slow, but you'll generally be able to go about your day functionally.prahkeitouj wrote:"Smoking weed is of course not "safe, full stop", but studies have found time and time again that it is indeed "safer than alcohol"."

But Marijuana is a kind of drug and illegal ? I thought alcohol is good if we just drink a little. But now I change my mind, water is best for meMekongMouse wrote:Yes, really. Marijuana is illegal because of politics; it has nothing to do with safety. It wasn't even illegal until 1996. I think alcohol is fine if you drink a little, but is dangerous if you drink too much. Both alcohol and marijuana are drugs. Where I am from, they are both legal.prahkeitouj wrote:But Marijuana is a kind of drug and illegal ? I thought alcohol is good if we just drink a little. In the old marijuana classic book "A Child's Garden of Grass" it had chapters on all thing related to grass, how to roll, effects of grass, how to grow, how to buy, etc. The chapter entitled 'The Dangers of Marijuana' was two words long. The first page of the chapter was the chapter title. The next page had the words "Getting busted." in the middle of the page. The next page was a new chapter.

Between the 2, all of my "day after regrets" have been because of alcohol, not weed.

I grew up in Oregon and currently live in Washington, both states in the US and both have legalized marijuana for people 21 and over.
Almost half the US has "medical marijuana" which means that you can go to a doctor to get a note which allows you to grow, smoke, and purchase marijuana (specifics vary state to state).
The state I grew up in was also the first to remove criminal penalties for marijuana possession, back in 1973, and was the 2nd state in the US to allow medical usage in 1998.
