Re: Uk to outlaw laughing gas and "legal" highs
Experts warn that bans on illegal highs will just push the problem elsewhere. Duh. Making things illegal doesn't stop people from wanting to get wasted. It's incredible how politicians cling to this stupid and inefficient attitude towards drugs.
Anyway, here is an article from the Guardian on legal highs and drug use generally in Europe. Interesting.

Anyway, here is an article from the Guardian on legal highs and drug use generally in Europe. Interesting.
http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015 ... -eu-report
The latest Eurobarometer figures for use of legal highs by young people show the highest levels of use in the last 12 months were in Ireland (9%), where a blanket ban has been in force since 2010, followed by France (8%), Spain (8%), Slovenia (7%) and the UK (6%).
...
The EMCDDA annual report confirms that cannabis remains the most widely consumed illegal drug in Europe, with an estimated 19.3 million adults reporting to have used it in the last year. Cannabis use continues to decline or remain stable in Britain, Germany and Spain.
...
But the report adds that there is evidence of movement from legal highs to heroin and prescription drugs, and the development of an illegal street market.
...
His agency particularly identifies the development of the sale of illicit drugs in “cryptomarkets” or “deep web” online marketplaces which are only accessible via encryption software as a further major challenge.

Should be a good laugh
Protesters against the proposed new law will be inhaling laughing gas outside Parliament in London. (August 1, 3pm according to FB.)
Protesters against the proposed new law will be inhaling laughing gas outside Parliament in London. (August 1, 3pm according to FB.)
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/com ... 12728.htmlThe prohibition of certain psychoactive substances is an affront to the basic right of bodily autonomy: the right to do whatever we want with our own bodies.
... To make this point clear to the Government, hundreds of people will gather outside Parliament next month for a mass inhalation of nitrous oxide, organised by The Psychedelic Society. It will be a brief, tidy and symbolic action, intended to make a serious point about an outrageous infringement of personal liberty...
As the independent, science-led drugs charity DrugScience says: “If the user of nitrous oxide is in good health, understands the risks, and avoids dangerous methods, nitrous oxide is one of the least risky drugs.” Any substance can be dangerous if used irresponsibly; the key to reducing harm is in education. Prohibition will do little to reduce prevalence, nothing to improve education, and is an disgusting affront to the liberty of the vast majority of people who use drugs responsibly.
