Re: Nick Mclernan and the British Embassy's Discretionary Po
Maybe they were confused. Maybe they thought the relatives were LTO's 'Calmette organ harvesters' buying up big.vladimir wrote:These are the guys that tried to sell bodies of victims back to relatives after the bridge disaster, remember?
Re: Nick Mclernan and the British Embassy's Discretionary Po
I thought an embassy rep visited him on more than one occasion at the hospital. And liaised with relatives regarding his condition and situation.vladimir wrote:They probably wanted him gone because every day he stayed it was costing them, as Nick has no funds, and his embassy was a no-show, so no chance of ever getting their money...
Or are you suggesting that the embassy should have paid his hospital bills too?
Not my organ harvesters. I learned about them from RainDog in this very thread.Username Taken wrote:Maybe they were confused. I was stating a simple fact. 'No-show' was referring to cash, not a visit after public forum exposure had become uncomfortable.Neither Nick, his relatives, nor his embassy were going to pay. End of. This whole saga could have been so easily averted by simply sending Nick home in the first instance.
I have a lot more respect for the US embassy and certain other countries' embassies here now, they seem to look after their citizens way better than the UK does.

I didn't know you were into organ harvesting LTO. WOW that takes some guts.

Re: Nick Mclernan and the British Embassy's Discretionary Po
Embassy didn't visit because of forum chatter. They visited because they visit all citizens in that sort of situation (i.e. injured in the hospital and unable to speak for himself,) but otherwise, yes, fair comment. Though I might add that nobody but the first on that list had any obligation to pay. A good case for travel insurance.vladimir wrote:I was stating a simple fact. Re: Nick Mclernan and the British Embassy's Discretionary Po
The thread is about discretionary policy, not obligation. As has been pointed out, the embassy seems to be only here to facilitate business deals, not to assist citizens.
They don't even do passport renewals. What DO they actually do apart from working for business interests, is there an official list?
I suppose if they feel that's kosher and worthy of the ' Great Britain' /British heritage, then what can one do?

Why? Travel insurance costs money. Going to Calmette for three weeks and then pleading poverty and walking out the door without paying is free.LTO wrote: A good case for travel insurance.

And very often insurers refuse/fight a pay out or delay it for along time. Often one has to pay and then claim later, anyway, very few pay out right away.

Nick obviously didn't/doesn't want to go home.
How can the embassy help a man who doesn't want help, or at least provide the bare minimum requirements to get help?
Let's not forget this a guy who spunked a hell of a lot of money, which was his choice.
Once more, fuck him.
