I'll be honest, I don't think the media's aim's very good.

What bugs me is that they will criticise him and try to de-bunk him just for the sake of it, when there is so much material available to them which validly needs to be criticised.

It probably rubs me up the wrong way for example when I see the media (such as the BBC) launching into an article about the virus originating in a lab, with the presumption that that wasn't the case just because Trump said it might be the case, just as much as it does when Trump's behaviour is genuinely unfathomably dire. To me it seems EVERY possibility that the virus came from the Wuhan lab, and I for one am behind Trump pushing China to be more open about it, and for potential repercussions against China, no matter how powerful and influential China might be.

However, in the last few days we've had Trump:

1. Suggesting that people might benefit from injecting disinfectant
2. Giving vocal support to people he sees as being his voters, who are breaking the law by gathering in public, and (although of course this is apparently entirely legal in America) walking round in army uniforms carrying shotguns in public.
3. Saying, when talking about the virus, that the Chinese want him to lose "this race"

To me all of these things are massively disturbing. The part about the President talking about "this (election) race" when giving a Coronavirus briefing is a huge issue, and I've not even seen it been mentioned by the media. Maybe it might be more appropriate for them to be asking why the President is supporting people breaking the law, and why he sees the Coronavirus virus as being just a part of the election race, rather than them sitting in a studio playing clips of him speaking awkwardly and mocking him for it.

If the Prime Minister in the UK made any of these massive blunders, he would be publicly crucified by the media. Our media were trying to hang the government for not reaching a benchmark target of tests per day, calling it a "deadline" when it was no such thing, and when the government did meet that target after all, they started questioning whether we were just testing for the sake of it now ! Can you imagine if the PM had conflated the fight against the virus and an election race ?
