Voicing, not holding those opinions was a breach of the terms of the players code of conduct. I don't know the details of the code, but he certainly did. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.

Good comment. Completely agree. I find what he said vile, but I can't change people's views or stop them holding those views. It is voicing his opinion on social media that was the problem, and a breach of his obligations under the code of conduct.

Hopefully he raises the 3m, blows it all on the legal fees, fails, is ordered to pay costs, and the ACL loses its charitable status for fundraising for an individual to sue a private company for personal gain.

As do many Christians, but that doesn't t make it any more palatable to me. Folau has a contract and is required by it to adhere to the code of conduct outlined in it. I think it's a tin foil hat rather than a MAGA hat.

Seems some are missing the point. I assume freedom of speech in Australia permits the expression of most, or all, opinions, even homophobia and similar.

However, if you are within an organisation, employed, representing them etc, then you abide by the rules of that organisation. The organisation has some codes of conduct imposed upon its members. Your freedom of speech does not enter into the discussion if you break the organisation's rules.

It is similar to those numpties who somehow think that on a chat forum, or facebook, or whatever private organisation online they can literally say what they want. You know these misinformed twits get all indignant and claim their freedom of speech is being restricted because the forum just censored them for calling someone a damn f**got or something. But the private organisation has rules against that and you have absolutely no freedom of speech on that chat forum, facebook etc. None. You are subject to the rules of the organisation. The organisation is not subject to the country's freedom of speech rules.

It is entirely legal for me to set up a chat forum where I ban all discussion on Brexit, or Trump, or the price of milk.

So in short, this Folau chap is not only a bigotted fucksack, but he's also a bit thick.

But that's not the point is it? The point is freedom of speech, you claim Folau's freedom of speech is being infringed upon. It is NOT. He is free to say all his bigoted things. No issue at all. He has not been arrested, he is not facing any charges is he?

He has been chucked out of the rugby team/organisation because they don't appreciate bigoted hate speech. He was even warned previously. That doesn't make the rugby organisation a bunch of liberal namby pambies though does it? It simply means they wish to include all people from all walks of life so, blacks, gays, Jews and so on. In order to be inclusive and make everyone feel comfortable, they have some rules that say "if you represent our organisation, you can't talk like a fuckwad, have some respect for others, you prick".
