I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but the hill tribes in Laos used to walk around with long muskets like that.
The compressed air guns are more common it seems now, but these things were/ are something else.
From what I saw and was told they would get a long steel rod, maybe a meter or so long.
Then they would get an iron poker and heat it till it was red hot, and poke at the center of the rod.
After hundreds of hours they would have a hollow bar. Then they would drill a tiny hole for where the
striker would set off the charge. For this they would often use the caps from kid's play guns. Inside it was just a
rough muzzle load. It seems they could manage to shoot a whole lot of wildlife around going on what was in
the markets. There were loads of army/ militia guys around too but they wore very mixed outfits so it was
hard to tell. Most of them carried AKs but there was still the odd M16 around.

S what kind of shot do they use, just a lead ball sort of thing? I've seen them but never fired one.
