Do Expats really think life in Cambodia is meaningful?
Cambodia is such a strange land. It's dangerously easy going for some, it's poor and run down, but many remain and end up living there. The people are friendly, but the rich poor divide is highlighted-bla bla bla!
The main point being, what meaning do Expats have for living in Cambodia? What's important for them in Cambodia, or is it simply just a cheap place to bum in? What does Cambodia have that motivates you?
Personally i think it's great for a few months, but live there? Dunno. The place is so messed up i doubt i could attach any seriousness to it.

Re: Do Expats really think life in Cambodia is meaningful?
Bit of a weird post. I don't think life has any great "meaning" to it other than the pursuit of happieness. If happieness is the point of life and this place makes people happy, then why wouldn't they stay here?
And if living in Cambodia isn't "meaningful" for you, then where is?
I don't think the meaningfulness of a person's life is defined by where they choose to spend it. It's defined by what they choose to do with it.

It may have been more tactful to avoid the tired old theme that Cambodian expats are bums. LOL.
I think most people here know that Cambodia is messed up, but so are most places. Where do you live? I think we could probably find reasons why we wouldn't want to live there.

Why not? Works for me....more relaxed here then a lot of other counties I lived in....that might have something to do with getting old....and having lower expectations...
I was born with nothing , and I still have most of it left.

Agree 100% mate. Those that know me, know what an enormous change in direction and focus my life has taken over here.Because I have worked my arse off, rather then sat on it and made the most of the opportunities this country has offered me,that my country of birth couldn't. Steelfixer/concretor to chef on a luxury yacht?? Try making that change, or finding that opportunity in Australia/ US/UK etc. To me at least, it is the kingdom of DON"T wonder - just fukn GO FOR IT and MAKE it happen.randompeeps wrote:Bit of a weird post. Thanks for your intellectual reply!Sir_Quality_U_Feel wrote:Take your trolling shit and go back to where you fucking came from, cunt.
Apologies if anyone thinks its a wierd question. I live in the UK. I understand my people, country, speak their language, and am not deluding myself about the realities of what happens over here. Same as when i'm in Cambodia, i'm all too aware that its a real poor country and as much as theres fun to be had there, its still full of problems and unfairness.
Of course i could start a business but would rather travel about. I can happily deal with real Cambodia, don't need anything Expat, am a ex long term world traveller.
I can understand wanting to settle and live in other continents, including similar priced countries, but not Cambodia. Don't take that the wrong way, that's just the way i feel based on what i've seen/experienced in the place during my 6-8 months there.

if i could freely choose where to live, Cambodia wouldn't make it into the top 10,000
