Dare or Not Dare

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Calling someone "Neak" doesn't express or mean that you are mad with them. It is a way of addressing stranger or someone you have never met before. It is a very formal way to adress people, but only in writing. In real life, we don't really call people "Neak". You might hear this word in the news or drama.

Indeed, I was misinformed. I thought an older Cambodian man told me, very emphatically, not to use because it was like wagging your finger in somebody's face and accusatory. It now appears I must have misunderstood him. Always good to learn new things, though I'm a little disheartened to know that people I've meant to slyly insult have walked away unscathed. ;)

i have never really been to Kampong Chhnang and i just passed it a long the way i went to other provinces. It is really rarely to hear people call you neak.

Normally we don't call anyone Neak, but i was surpried when i went there. Sometimes not only barangs, but Cambodians also confused. Sometimes we use different words to refer to same thing if we are from different provinces :p it's funny when Khmer don't understand Khmer =@

This is completely true. i had hard time when i was on 1 week mission to Odormeanchay and Siem Reap, some of Cambodians there speak dialect. Most of the time i could't get them. i could get them 80% as long as i paid more attention. The funny thing was that they said i don't speak khmer clearly. :) I am from Sihanoukville where people speak really clear.
