Conspiracy Theories (FLERF)

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

Unless we experience or witness something first hand, with our own eyes, all we have in life is eyewitness testimony from other people, of which we have no idea if they're telling the truth or not, photographic evidence, of which we have no idea if it's been doctored or staged, or video evidence, which, as with photographic evidence, we have no idea how, where, why or who created it.

It's human nature to be skeptical, given the lies we're all told on a daily basis from politicians, companies, advertisers, even friends and loved ones on occasion. I tend not to have strong opinions either way on conspiracy theories. Both official and conspiracy versions of events rely on being told things by other people. What makes one persons version of events any more believable than another?

Often it's not about which is the true version of events, It just comes down to who is the most believable and who has the most credible (real or doctored) evidence.
I believe in numbers and hence physics, which can provide you with a number of ways to demonstrate for yourself that, indeed, the world is round.
This contributes to a general learning towards science for me. Theories are great but should be demonstrable.
I agree 100% about personal experience contributing to the truth but some of these ideas that people hold and have held for a very long time are just crazy shit.

If you look at pictures of any of the rockets which carried humans to space, they are as tall as multi-storey buildings, and most of it is fuel.

If you look at pictures of the lunar modules. This one is in a museum.

Who actually believes these have enough fuel to go from orbiting the moon, to the surface of the moon, then go from the moons surface, back to orbiting the moon?

Have you heard of simulation theory? It's become quite a mainstream part of serious science over the last few years. It basically explores the possibility that the universe, and ultimately us, are all part of a giant computer simulation. There does seem to be a fair amount of credible evidence for it and it does tend to explain a lot of things that are currently difficult to explain.

Many famous scientists believe there's a strong possibility of it being true. Its fascinating stuff once you start looking into it.

They left a load of shit on the moon, that you can see. That's how you know they went there. Especially the mirror they put up there so we can measure how fast the moon is moving away. If they didn't go, what are we bouncing the laser off of? Also all of those people with telescopes who watched them going up, orbitting, coming back down and all that bollocks.

All very true, but for me, the most significant evidence that Americans went to the moon is the fact that Russia (or the USSR at the time) have never denied it. If anyone was to know it was a hoax, it would be them.

For all of the 'We plan to go to the moon not because it's easy but because it's hard' rhetoric that Kennedy came out with, for all of the scientific endevour and advancement of the human race bullshit, the Americans did it to stick a great big fat middle finger up to the USSR who, at the time, were way ahead of them in the space race. - first satellite in space, first man in space etc...

You can't tell me that the Apollo missions weren't analysed with 100% precision by the Russians. If there was even the slightest possibility that the moon landings were faked, those pesky Ruskies would have been the first to know about it and they'd have been the first to expose it to the rest of the world. But they never did.

Forget everything else, that alone should tell everyone that it really did happen.
