CEO stats

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

CEO stats

Post by Soi Dog »

Just rough numbers:

Around 51% of registered CEO members have never posted anything despite having taken the time to sign up.

Over 70% have one post or less.

Why is this? If we start up a new thread on"Why I don't post on CEO", will we get genuine replies or just the famous 8% ventriloquist ?
Only one way to find out....

I guess some people are quick to register for such things and then just as quickly lose interest, whereas I am too lazy to bother registering for any forum unless I have a genuine interest in it and have followed the site for quite a while before I engaged.

I have no affiliation with this site beyond posting on it, but it would still be nice to get some more people actively posting here. The improvement here was dramatic from just the arrival of our two respected Cambodian posters. It would be nice to further expand the CEO member base similarly, with people of diverse views and who take an active participation. No idea how to do that, though.

Single-posters: Possibly also that group of people that don't participate, or even read the forum, but have a message they want to get our there and Googled "Cambodia forums". Or they felt strongly about something posted, and felt the need to make their one statement. Or spambots.

First thing I do whenever a noob posts a strong or contrary post is check their posting history - can be very enlightening. I too have had too much time on my hands.

Yeah, CEO is almost 11 months old now, and I think we've all done a damn good job being welcoming to new members and avoiding the absolute fucktardery that K440 has really been drenched with lately.

And we couldn't be more grateful for Samouth and Little Salary joining CEO and being so active here!

Also, I fully understand lurkers. I myself am a lurker on a few other sites, and while I enjoy reading them, rarely feel like contributing.

I think all of our active members should feel proud of lurkers. It means random people find your contributions interesting and even though they don't feel like getting involved in the conversation, they enjoy reading what's going on.

So I salute you all!

And you can always go out of your way to invite anyone over to CEO and sign-up! I've invited quite a few, some who have stuck around, and some who just lurk, or probably some who have lost interest (those bastards).

I met Samouth on Facebook, and he seemed really cool, so I told him he should join CEO! Glad he did, because he's easy going, fun, and has contributed a lot!

I believe he then invited Little Salary to join. We are all glad for her presence too!

So in all reality, I think these things just take time. As of right now, I think CEO has one hell of a cool and informative group of members!

And don't get me wrong. I used to love Khmer440! However, I think of it as a once-legendary forum, but is now just a rather boring site that's owned by a guy that had openly admitted he bought it for the money, and has even gone as far as to censor language and even SFW (safe for work) images so he can make money off Google Adsense.

And there's just nothing wrong with that, but it's just not Khmer440 any longer. All that remains from times of old is the domain name.

I've always been confused by Scobie buying Khmer440 and trying to turn it into a family safe money making website. Too much rebranding involved. It would be like buying McDonald's and trying to turn it into a vegan restaurant. Sure, you could do it, but why?

And a serious thanks to you guys! It's no secret that this is the first site I've ever modded, and I've taken a lot of advice from many of you guys! You guys have been quick top spot trolls (and other negative things) and let us know. We haven't been able to accommodate every single time, so I also appreciate you guys being cool about it and realizing we can't all always agree and every single thing.

And you might not see it, but OD does a LOT behind the scenes to make sure CEO is setup to succeed. Furthermore, I usually vote to not announce every technological advantage OD sets up, as I don't think it's always a good idea to let your competitors know every single advantage you have over them. But trust me, he's done a lot to make sure CEO was setup correctly from the ground up. And I'm just speaking in general here.

I think one of the biggest things we got going is how welcoming we are. I just saw a thread on K440 where a mother was planning on moving to Sihanoukville with her kids. They treated her like shit. While I think many raised some good points, I think it was just dumb to treat her like shit. Maybe she'll find her way over here, who knows, LoL.

So good stats, Soi Dog. Some ideas to help us get some new members:

If you see anything interesting at all on the web, related to Cambodia or not, start a thread and post it! If you find it interesting, others likely will too. And if not, it slowly falls down to the second page, etc.. Making new threads is probably one of the most helpful things you can do for a forum you support.

Invite people on over. See someone cool on a Facebook page or whatever that might have fun on CEO, invite them to sign up! I have a feeling that most people on the web are just aimlessly surfing around looking for cool shit. If you invite them, then it's already a site that someone has personally recommended. I've noticed that some people who I've invited over to CEO sign up almost immediately! Good stuff.

If you notice someone interesting sign up, send them a welcome PM. Or even just ask them to post something on the introduction thread.

Link to us when you can. The more people that find CEO, the more members we'll have.

You can also give Karma to someone if they post something you really like. While Karma is worth fuck-all, it's the thought that counts, and anyone would be glad to see that someone has taken the time to say "thank you."

Anyways, glad to see you guys thinking about and noticing these things. And a huge thanks to our many members who take the time to start threads and post instead of just lurking.

And please, by no means am I saying I "expect" any of these things to be done by you guys, but if you were wondering how you could help, these were just some ideas.

I even had a little conversation with Francis recently, thanking him for his positive contributions earlier on when CEO was just getting started. While I don't appreciate his recent sabotage attempts, I don't even hold that shit against him per se because.... Meh, it's the fucking internet! ! !

So let's remember not to take anything online too seriously and have fun!

And I just noticed Anchor Moi started a thread related to this one inviting the lurkers to post, so thanks for that too!

Remember, CEO doesn't tolerate racist/sexist posts, so while it might be NSFW (not safe for work) sometimes, it's a site you can be proud of being an active member on. I remember how hard it was years ago to try to find other K440 members (including the old owner, Peter) but considering it was and still is a place that allows blatant racist jokes and stuff, it's no surprise many were/are ashamed to say they post there, LoL.

Would you really feel good about inviting a friend to a site like this where the owners and their friends crack racist jokes like this?
