Is CEO Repeating The Mistakes of That Other Site

If you have something so weird, strange or off-topic to post and think it doesn't belong in any other forum; you're probably right. Please put all your gormless, half-baked, inane, glaikit ideas in here. This might also be a place where we throw threads that appear elsewhere that don't belong ANYWHERE end up, instead of having to flush them. FORUM RULES STILL APPLY.

If I have to click through 37 pages of back and forth circle jerk nonsense between the same 3 or 4 posters with their lame inside repetitive jokes then I will lose interest. And while 37 pages of posts per topic may be great for site statistics early on, long term that is certain death to the forum. Just sayin'. How to reign that in without over moderation and deleting posts is the big problem any forum moderator faces.
I think Soi Dog has hit the nail on the head. There needs to be a balance, I enjoy both sides, but can see how one might annoy someone else, the best solution might be just moving it here.

However, I agree with Rain Dog, it has to be done in moderation otherwise it will be a clique and impenetrable for newbies or misconstrued by other members (like me. I was told I was a drama queen. I don't know where it comes from)
That's pretty much where I was coming from, it's about getting the balance right and I realise that's a difficult thing to achieve while trying to keep the site fresh. My original quality comment that OD disagreed with wasn't meant in a high brow context, I'm here for what I think is quality humour as much as quality discussion hopefully, and obviously what I consider to be entertaining will likely be completely different to someone else.

Joon, you don't have to apologize for doing that here, that's what makes this place so great!

Ideally this is what the chat room was started for. to sort of blow some of that steam off... but unfortunately it's really not a user friendly solution to the site and the new already seems to be worn off.

Can I just say that what I really like from a personal perspective is the fact that you have set up the separate Thailand section. I always felt a bit self conscious about bringing up Thailand related conversation on the other site, whereas with this set up it's much more comfortable.

^ I thought that was a very smart move too. :thumb:

I like Thailand, I don't know if I'd want to live there, but I've got nothing against the place.

Bangkok is wonderful, their food is amazing, their hospitals are wonderful and the people are very nice and down to earth if you meet the right ones.

I always find it hard keeping the trolls IN the box, the buggers tend to get out and keep on trolling.

When you look at the percentage of forum views coming from Thailand, it makes complete sense to welcome those readers specifically and reach out for their forum participation. One of the many , many mistakes on that other forum has been to routinely bash expats in Thailand (I guarantee they will learn from CEO in rectifying that now). Many of us go between Thailand and Cambodia regularly.

Maybe a special Vietnam section wouldn't hurt either in the future, if the viewership increases from there.

Yep....move the silly repetitive slag fests and inside jokes to this asinine section and then we can all avoid those types of threads if we chose. Fair call.
