CEO and Khmer440 reach a GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT!
Re: CEO and Khmer440 reach a GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT!
Well Americans have no Monopoly on lack of curiosity about the world around them --- in fact I think Aussies and Kiwis might be even more insular than Yanks. I think it has to do with geographic isolation. At least a lot of Brits make it across the Channel into Europe.Milord wrote:I see enough of it on TV. Too much infact.
When I was staying in Florida in West Palm Beach, I could not get over how F'n insular everybody was. Even my Aunt Peggy. Ask anyone for directions to Major Dept. or Grocery stores, not a clue. Later to discover that it was 1 Block away. OMG.
Worldliness? Nothing. Nice people for sure but not very Curious. Favourite white wine, Cha-Bliss. haha
One thing I do think is unique to American culture is the trend to not question anything. "Mainstream" Americans can be curious but seem to get most of their information passively (spoonfed) rather questioning things. It is a bi-product of TV and entertainment culture. If it's on a screen it must "be true" or somehow "representative" of truth. Americans have no idea how their "reality" (world view) is created for them. Leaving the USA for me was like being unplugged from "The Matrix". My return trips back were shortly after 911 --- and I swear it was like culture shock visiting there at that time.

Yup, siege mentality. And a Fear Mongering Press. Who's going to attack us next?

Surely you jest. No offence, but this is one of the silliest things I've seen you post. It's a truism that you can go to any remote location on earth and call "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie" and you'll get the familiar and somewhat annoying response.Rain Dog wrote:Well Americans have no Monopoly on lack of curiosity about the world around them --- in fact I think Aussies and Kiwis might be even more insular than Yanks. There are no letters in the mailbox, there are no grapes upon the vine, there are no chocolates in the boxes anymore and there are no diamonds in the mine.

mmmmm - Former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld helped Saddam Hussein build up his arsenal of deadly chemical and biological weapons, when he was an executive in the pharamceutical industry during Reagan's time.Rain Dog wrote: Something to do with French Reluctance to support our noble efforts to bring freedom, peace, and democracy to the people of Iraq while at the same time generously assisting them to build up their oil industry infrastructure..
USA supplied military weapons to Iraq during the Iraq:Iran war......
And do you really believe that USA's interest was to bring freedom, peace and democracy to the people of Iraq.......... God help America

I would have to agree, the Americans IMHO, although very nice, do not seem to travel well.StroppyChops wrote:Surely you jest. No offence, but this is one of the silliest things I've seen you post. Was it George W Bush who has a world class knowledge of the lends beyond US shores (not), he said:
“It is clear our nation is reliant upon big foreign oil. More and more of our imports come from overseas.â€
but then again, in his defence he also said:
“You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on.â€

Going to move this to the Asinine Arena, as previously discussed, to clear up the General Chatter section.
