No. I did not. This does mean that he doesn't need to pay me for it.

The way I understand it is a $20 fan helps me decide if someone is my friend. If they pay me for it, I believe it to be true. If not, I lose a fan and a friend. Then I move on.

Yes, it's all coming back to me. Well, kudos to you for trying to handle it privately weeks ago BEFORE going public.

I guess this means you haven't gotten anywhere with it since. I had hoped this would all blow over by now. I still fail to see how I could/should personally help out with this matter. It sounds like you gave him a fantastic deal though.

Did your landlord know you were supposed to receive cash for it? Why would she let him go without paying? Did he convince her to let him take it for test spin or something? Looks he's not the only one who needs to cool down.

Strange story for so many reasons.

The story is starnge because the OP is posting conclusions like "thief" and "liar" but minimal facts.

The Op should just explain the whole story in detail. How he and the accused thief came into contact with each other. What happened with the landlady, why was she involved, what did he tell her to do if not to collect the fucking money when she handed over the fan. What was supposed to happen and what did happen in detail. The specific details of his communications with the accused thief after the fact, like what he said, what the accused fan thief said, etc.
