Alaska is still has the same reasons for not being a part of the Russian Empire as when the Tsar sold it long ago.

Geographically, it’s far from the center of power, Moscow. Even further than Siberia. Russia’s strength is in its railroads, all the ones in Alaska are the wrong gauge and would need to be rebuilt. Massive amounts of Eastern Russians would have to be forcibly moved into Alaska to displace the natives and US Alaskans. Plus it’s surrounded by enemies - Canada and the US. It would need to be super fortified. Stalin was able to forcible relocate huge segments of the Eastern population through gulags and war necessity. Vladivostok is fortified because it’s the only warm water port in the East.

Putin would have a hard time doing any of these things.

For the US, Alaska is a state, an integral part of the US. Sewn as a star in the US Flag. Not a territory, but has seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives. NORAD has their stations there as well as the arctic nuclear force. And of course oil from Prudhoe bay.

Putin trying to rip it away would be as foolish as the US claiming St. Petersburg as American soil.

But he is most certainly welcome to try.
