Sokha's "mistress" charged with prostitution.

Post by Anchor Moy »

I thought the angle of attack against Sokha would be the corruption charges, but for some reason the alleged mistress is to be charged with prostitution; this is getting sillier and sillier. As the Adhoc advisor says, the charges against the woman are not even applicable.
I'm trying to work out where this public shaming of the woman is leading to, because AFAIK it is not illegal to consort with prostitutes in Cambodia, or is it ? (That would be hilarious, but why not? TIC) If not, then maybe it's just a tactic to bully the woman into saying what they want her to. The saga continues...
A woman rumored to be a mistress of CNRP Vice President Kem Sokha has been summoned to appear before the Phnom Penh Municipal Court after police submitted a report to prosecutors accusing her of giving false testimony and being a “prostitute,” according to a court warrant seen on Friday.

The warrant, which was issued on March 22, orders hairdresser Khom Chandaraty—who has been ensnared in a sex scandal after being named as the woman heard speaking with Mr. Sokha in a series of intimate and sometimes sexually explicit recordings leaked online last month—to appear in court on April 8 to answer questions about her alleged crimes...

Ny Sokha, head of monitoring for rights group Adhoc, which is providing legal advice and representation to Ms. Chandaraty, said the summons was inappropriate and that neither proposed charge was applicable in the case.

Under the Criminal Code, only witnesses who have taken an oath before a court of law or a judicial police officer can be prosecuted for giving false testimony, he said, pointing out that Ms. Chandaraty had been questioned as a suspect and had not sworn an oath.

“None of the claims made by a suspect can be included in ‘giving false testimony,’” he said, adding that even if Ms. Chandaraty had been involved with Mr. Sokha, that would not constitute prostitution..

CNRP may not be as powerful as MR HE himself but nevertheless it is still a political party with certain clout, so i am guessing the first line of defense would to be to discredit the witness

NGOs issue letter in support of ‘Mon Srey’
Mon, 11 April 2016 Niem Chheng
Leading civil society organisations have banded together to defend the woman at the centre of opposition deputy leader Kem Sokha’s alleged love affair, claiming her rights have been violated and the charges against her are “baseless”.

In a joint statement, 20 organisations – including Silaka, Adhoc and Gender and Development for Cambodia – said Khom Chandaraty, also known as “Mon Srey”, had her privacy violated by social and local media and had been defamed by charges of false testimony and prostitution.

“This situation has resulted in her being victim of losing her job [and] living in fear,” the statement read. “All involved individuals in this case must take responsibility immediately and stop using women as an object of political gain.” ...

Quite agree that her life and reputation is in ruins and she has been treated like shit. Whether or not she had an affair, she's been used and abused, publicly branded as a prostitute, which will affect her long after the politicians have moved on to other lines of attack.
And what about those defamation laws ?

It's pre-election follies, time to sacrifice a fees innocents to the angry political gods of power. Oh and does"She should at least drop of a CV on street 104." really strike you as funny? *Life is too important to be taken seriously" is beginning to sound like the credo of a cynical coward.

Khom Chandaraty, also known as ‘Mon Srey’, appears at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday for questioning. Photo: Pha Lina

As usual, things are clear as mud. The girl has changed her story, implicating herself and Kem Sokha, according to the statement given by the case prosecutor (who is clearly impartial.):
...Seang Sok told reporters after the five-hour-long proceedings that during the course of questioning, Chandaraty, who is also known by her nickname Srey Mom and Facebook moniker Mon Srey, admitted it was her in the recordings.

“She answered in front of me and admitted that the voice in the conversation between her and Kem Sokha is really her voice,” he said.

Last month, Chandaraty, in her first public appearance, denied she was the voice on the recordings or that she was having an affair with Sokha...
This is illegal ? Surely KS could find $3000 without stealing it ? Or will he be charged with promising her a house ? Find out next episode...
...He said Chandaraty admitted to meeting Sokha twice at his hotel in Bangkok, once last November and again this February, where he tried to “seduce” her.
He also gave her $3,000 and promised to buy her a house, as well as handing her $300 for shopping in Bangkok, Sok said...
KS's the target, but the girl is taking all the mud-slinging. Not surprising if she cracks and confesses to whatever they throw at her
Claiming the case was an example of politicians using a woman to gain political mileage, grassroots political activist Kem Ley said this “game” would not fool the public.
“Srey Mom is just a victim of savage politicians,” he said. “I am very sorry that a young lady was used as a political tool.”

Curiouser and curiouser...
Now nameless Woman 1 is suing Man 1 for $300,000 for not giving her money. However, Man 1 is also being charged with giving money to Woman 1.

Woman 2 is suing Man 1 for denying that he had had a relationship with her - she wants $1m compensation. Woman 2 says on fb that Man 1 should also be charged with sex-trafficking.
The human rights organisations who tried to help Woman 1 are now being sued by her. An opposition member has been arrested.

People who have suggested that there is any underlying motive to all this have been threatened with defamation suits. %) Personally, I am sure that they are all telling the truth. O:-)

:dm: Cambodia's top soap continues. These are the days of our lives...
Friday, 17 June 2016
Khom Chandaraty, the alleged mistress of acting opposition leader Kem Sokha, appeared in the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday to testify as the victim in a prostitution case.

While Ms. Chandaraty admitted, during her more than three-hour testimony, to lying during a previous round of questioning on April 19, she also accused Mr. Sokha and fellow Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) members To Vann Chan and Pin Ratana of damaging her reputation and forcing her to resign from her job as a hairdresser.

She is asking for $300,000 in compensation from the man.

Ms. Chandaraty’s lawyer, Kem Veasna, said his client’s testimony was true
... O:-)

http://www.khmertimeskh.com/news/26236/ ... --300-000/

:o Let me get this straight - What and who is a victim in a prostitution case ? The prostitute or her client ?
If she is a prostitute, so what, this is not illegal. :Rose:

If she is not a prostitute, who accused her of being a prostitute ? :Search:
According to this earlier article from the CD, it was the police who accused the woman concerned of being a prostitute... and therefore, ruined her reputation as a hairdresser etc. Shame on them, I hope they will pay up. :whip:

Meanwhile, Adhoc members are questioned over a $204 "bribery" attempt. :mob:

The $204, a standard sum given to people being assisted by Adhoc, was seen by the Anti-Corruption Unit as a bribe.
“There was no other amount of money mentioned.
Full explanation on the court's line of inquiry here:
Phnom Penh Municipal Court spokesman Ly Sophanna declined to comment on the court’s line of inquiry during Ms. Chandaraty’s hearing.

“The inquiry is important during the investigative process and it’s very beneficial for the court to proceed to the next step,” Mr. Sophanna said.

I can hardly wait to see what the "next step" will be... ;-)
