Poipet International Tourist Station is a Stinking Garbage Tip
Welcome to Cambodia !
Poipet International Tourist Station is Used as Garbage Tip
Cambodia News, Banteay Meanchey Province: The International Tourist Station and Bus Terminal located in Palilei 1 Village, Sangkat Poipet, Poipet City has been turned into a dumping ground. Residents say the problem of garbage being dumped at the international tourist waiting area without being collected has lasted for almost a month now.
As well as being most off-putting for tourists who arrive in the Kingdom of Cambodia through Poipet border, the strong smell of the garbage is unbearable for the people living nearby, or even for passersby. It is an environmental and health risk which is increasing as the garbage piles up higher every day, and the stench is getting worse, attracting rats and flies. In despair, the local residents have appealed to the Poipet municipal authorities to find a solution.
Poipet City Hall officials said that they told the Poipet Sanitation Company to pick up the garbage at the Poipet International Tourist Station, but the employees at the sanitation company said that they cannot pick it up because the International Tourist Station and Bus Terminal has not paid the company to remove the garbage, so it stays there to rot and continues to stink.
The city official confirmed that he has reported this to the mayor of Poipet, and who has given the order to find a solution to remove all trash from the station.

Why don't the lazy bastard's working there take in behind the building and burn it? Seems to work everywhere else.
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

I think the problem is here:
I guess someone pocketed the money.but the employees at the sanitation company said that they cannot pick it up because the International Tourist Station and Bus Terminal has not paid the company

Re: Poipet International Tourist Station is a Stinking Garbage Tip
Cambodia News, Banteay Meanchey Province: According to a report from local sources, a lot of waste is still being dumped at Poipet International Gate in Poipet City. They say that the piles of stinking garbage dumped on the Cambodian side of the border by the stream between Thailand and Cambodia gives tourists from Thailand a bad image of Cambodia on arrival. It looks bad and it is unhealthy for the whole environment.
Residents of the area say that the waste is dumped by the Cambodian border guards into the stream. Everyone therefore agrees that the Poipet officials should take action to do their job to remove the garbage in order to safeguard the environment and protect the international reputation of Cambodia.

Il will take a lot of education and money to change the habits concerning garbage disposal. As long as you can dump for free with no consequences who is going to stop it?
I dont see enough environmental awareness for a quick win. Only catastrophy will probably lead to a change.
