Phnom Penh, Cambodia: An attempt was made to blow up a Canadia ATM, presumably to steal the money.

The police are investigating the explosion of a Canadia Bank's ATM, which is located in front of the National Children's Hospital in Teuk Laok 1 Commune, Toul Kok district on the night of 17 March 2017.

The police suspect an unidentified man was involved in the bombing of the ATM after checking the security camera in the morning of March 18, 2017.

Hun Sothy, who is a local police officer, has reported that they have not found a motive, other than to take the money from the ATM, but they are still reviewing the CCTV footage.

The explosion damaged the ATM machine, but not the money inside, and Canadia Bank has retrieved all th money.

There is an ongoing investigation in this case.

A report posted to the National Police website on Sunday describes security footage showing a man approaching the ATM and attaching explosives to the money slot, along with a fuse that he then lit.

A security guard at a hospital next to the ATM told a reporter on Sunday that his colleague stationed there at the time of the explosion had fallen asleep. Mr. Measpheakdey said such security lapses needed to stop...
