Laptop buying

Hi guys,

Not yet there but almost.

I will be buying a new laptop in PP (or saigon) instead of bringing my ageing one there.

Is ptc or pcs the best place to buy new laptops? Is it safe to assume they are authorized dealers?

Im leaning towards asus. Basically what I need is a brand new laptop with 8g ram, 1tb storage or ssd and minimum 2.3 ghz. Good battery life. Budget of $1,000 max.

What about chantra. Is it safe? Really brand new?

I am seeing laptops with no os. How much is genuine windows 10 there? Should I just buy authentic key online?

Basically what I want is to just go into a store find what I need with Windows 10 os already and leave the soonest.

Do you have any other recommendations for a laptop shop?

Anybody have experience buying in Saigon? Is it better to buy there?

Thank you in advance.

I found Bangkok to be a waste, not any cheaper than Phnom Penh really. Just bought a new Asus myself. 256SSD, i5, 6-8G ram, 1.3kg. A but under $800. I bought from a shop on Kirirum.

We needed a new laptop a while ago, so following advice, BF went to Bangkok.
Both recommended shopping centers were closed for refurbishment, with no announcement on either of their websites.
He ended up getting the laptop in PP on his way back home!

I got my laptop from IT City at Pantip Plaza (is this one of the places being refurbished???) when I was in Bangkok and it was a bit cheaper than comparable in Cambodia but not a huge amount, probably not enough to make a special detour for but the 50+ models they had on display meant I got exactly what I wanted and it was new out of the box with a guarantee. Compare that to the very limited choice in SHV where they were trying to sell me already unboxed machines with dirty fingerprints all over the screen, totally different specs to what I was looking for and crammed full with pirated software and god only knows what else.

They also give you a VAT refund form so you can claim the 7% back at the airport which on a $1000 machine pays for half the airfare and a few free goodies were thrown in like screen cleaner and a wireless mouse.

OP: Sorry, don't know about options in Saigon but at IT City the Windows OS was sold separately (on a disc) and was about $100 or so on top and they offered to install the software for me if I had wanted.

IT City worked well for me, MBK came up with a huge variety and good prices as well. Goods are all authenthic, with warranty and extras as you say. In Cambodia prices were slightly higher. You really have to watch whether things are original thoughl. While I did my best, they still managed to unwrap the battery for my newly purcbased cell phone and inserted it. Few weeks later this battery overheated and swell up. I was set back another 40 bucks for a new one while on layover in Malaysia. That one btw still works, two years later.

Really?

Look closely. His reply is embedded within the quote. Hard to make any sense of it.

At least he's only quoting one time now, instead of the double quotes from last week.

On a positive note, there is progress. :thumb:
