Whats the best way to do this route, i know they have minivans from Poipet border to Pattaya, but surely these vans dont go all the way to near bangkok before heading down to Pattaya and i dont fancy going all the way back down to near SHV to do the Koh Kong border, i might try check out flights to bkk and taxi it from there

If you don't want to go through Koh Kong a flight to Bangkok would be better IMHO.

No way would i take a bus from PP to Poi Pet and then down to Pattaya.

or does it stick to the main road, ive done the poi pet border hundreds of time it only takes me on average 20 minutes to get from the bus drop off to the minivan station, im not too scared of the busses, but when i last went from Pattaya > PP i did fly, flight + 30kg baggage was only about £45 the flight itself was only about £20 the rest was baggage, air asia i think it was

I believe but Richard may be better informed on this, that if you are going direct to Pattaya, the most direct way will be through Koh Kong. If you have to stop in Bangkok then go through Poi Pet.

I have never done this, just been told about it, as I always fly whenever I go to Thailand.

Then mini bus to chon buri from BKK bus station would seem like a good option but then a night bus from PP to poi pet then cross the border to aranyaprathet and catch a mini bus to chon buri would also be a good option and cheapers with less transfers but a few valium or a bottle of fake jack daniels from no mans land will be neccesary to cope.

PP- Battambang ( 5 hours) - Pailin ( 90 minutes) - Pattaya ( 3 hours+)
but it all depends on connections. I usually say one night in Batt

PP- KK (4-5 hours) KK- Trat (2 1/2 hours) -Pattaya (4 hours)
These are my driving times

Best is fly and only a 90 minute bus dm-pattaya

PP to DMK would definitely be the cheaper option, taking the 0830 AA flight from PP. Then it's a taxi to Mo Chit Bus Terminal (140 baht), and catch the direct express bus to Pattaya North Rd. bus station. Platform 7x something. Ask at the Info Desk inside. It's all expressway and very fast, though I think 90 minutes is optimistic -- depending on traffic, of course.

I do hate spending the whole day travelling. If I'm in a hurry and can afford it, I take Bangkok Air to Swampy and the Jomtien express bus (134 baht) to Jomtien. The bus is on the Public Taxi level, which I think is level 1 (not basement for the trains). But get off early at Pattaya Klang (Central Road). They always stop here. Then walk across the pedestrian bridge to catch a baht bus or moto taxi.
