Cheap places to eat in Sihanoukville

Rough guide to cheap eating in S'ville - there's masses of cheap places so this is just a few that I've tried recently.
:dm:

Used to often go to Tola St for a BBQ, but the beach places are more fun and Tola St seems to be on the out. Usually go to Beachy, between JJs and Dolphin.
For the Tola St places, my pick would be Grand Kampuchea for its good selection of vegetable options with the standard BBQ. They are not particularly pleasant, but the menu is varied. Also on Tola St, I like Ecstactic Pizza for jolly pizzas and khmer food.

Also, used to go to K2 down by O. Beach for indian food, which was tasty and worth the (long) wait. Unfortunately, these days you wait as long, but its really not worth it. This is based on 2 visits - Feb & Dec 2014.

Up on Vic Hill, on "restaurant street" (which is now sealed!), I think that Nana and Sovann (who have moved opposite Nana) are not as good as before. Sovann has 3 to 4 times as many tables as the old place and I got the impression that they are struggling to keep up. The place just next to Nana gets my vote (don't know the name sorry), as well as the excellent Romdoul at the end of the street.

I've left the best for last : "Titanic" ! Despite its stupid name - very good, very cheap, very friendly. A real find that most expats in S'ville know about. It gets really busy nights, so don't turn up too late if you want a table!

Titanic? This is one expat that doesn't know where its at. Where? What kind of food?

Not dirt cheap, but a real treat and well worth the money is the $12.50 Ribeye dinner at Monkey Mark's or his giant burger.

Simple food like shrimps/squid with garlic, barracuda with lemon caper sauce, chicken with red pepper sauce, a good cordon bleu - most meals about $3. Draft beer at 50c. Nothing fancy, but good fare. They serve all day and you don't have to wake them up for lunch.
It's on the street that goes up from Ocheateal St where the Tourist Police place is located (and GBT) toward 23 Tola on the right hand side - almost next to Smoke and Pepper. There's only 8-9 tables.

Romdouls on the hill. Everything's good & crazy cheap. I go for the stuffed squid. Service is let's say brusque. Delicious is good and crazy cheap too w/the advantage of them being nice people. Between Led Zephyr & Pure on Beach Rd. As far as BBQs on Tola having eaten at almost all of 'em the best 1 is the last 1 on the L (past all the Happy's heading E). Everything on the menu is good (I'll edit the name in later). Grand Kampuchea has good food, but they treat customers like shit & it's hurting their biz. Cabbage Garden has excellent Khmer Food downtown. As far as Monkey Marks, I got the last of his steaks for awhile I think. His supplier doesn't have the NZ Ribeyes any more & he had to fork out for US Prime at 2X the cost. I had it last night & it wasn't as good as the NZ. Mark will get it sorted, but it might take a couple weeks. Call 1st or go for the burger.

After getting sick from takeaway from Romdouls (on Victory Hill) twice (once was commode hugging, talking to ralph, taking the big spit sick most of the night), I stopped going to Romdouls. I always thought what I could see of their kitchen sanitation was a bit bad.

I'll have to check with Mark as I was just about to get my steak fix there. Hope he can get a new supply. The burger is amazing if you haven't had one, try it.

Yeah, I haven't been back since I went into their bathroom. I've always gone with the 'dirty bathroom = dirty kitchen' maxim, but we're talking cheap here. Can't have everything. I had eaten there a lot w/no adverse consequences though.

I haven't been there in a coon's age, but is Espresso Kampuchea still open? They used to do a cheap breakfast back when there weren't many other food options downtown. They probably lost most of their custom when the bus terminal was moved. I used to overhear other customers flirting with the English owner's young Khmer wife when he was preoccupied.

Unfortunately I saw that Gordon the owner passed away only recently but I don't know whether the business is still running. I was staying downtown and ate a few of my breakfasts around the corner at JJ's when I spent some time in SNV last year. I thought it was pretty decent if you needed the English fix and reasonably priced for the offering with a pleasant vantage point to watch the world go by.

Come eat local foods at my house. There is a market in front of my house called Keng Kong market. It is 2 minutes drive from Sihanoukville Airport about 25 km from the downtown. It is close to Ream Beach and Ream National Park. Moreover there are a fews islands you can visit too. J/K
