2 Cambodian men arrested for eating a dog. Revolting maybe, but is this illegal in Thailand ?
Just after midnight on June 20 the Banglamung Police received information on their 191 Hotline Number about animal abuse in the worker camp in M. 2 Takiantia, Banglamung. A patrol was sent to the location.
There sixty-seven year old Pornthip Pikulthong told them she was walking home, after buying food, and saw two men cutting up an animal. She thought it was a pig and so approached with an offer to buy some. The men refused and then waved her away. But she noticed the animal was a dog and hurried off to call the police.
The two men, Cambodian nationals, Pleng Phol, (37) and Chaiha Plengchaiha (25), admitted butchering the dog but insisted they did not kill the animal. They claimed it was their own dog that had died of illness earlier in the evening and so they decided to eat it.
Pol Capt Sittawat is not convinced by their story and has sent the dog to be examined for the real cause of death before deciding how to proceed further.
