The pointing farang ...

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

A farang bravely points out the Danger on Soi Buakow, Pattaya

What would we do without someone pointing? Just how would we know what to look for? Thank goodness for this brave farang who manages to point out one of the many dangers of living in Pattaya.

We should all know what dangers to look out for by now. Most common dangers include girls, alcohol, motorbikes and balconies, but we often forget about the electrical pylons that could fall on top of us at any time.

Take a look at this one, located directly outside a major hotel on Soi Buakow.

It looks like it’s about to topple over any minute, and locals say that it has been in this state for several months, ever since it was hit by a bus. It has gradually gotten worse over time, so local decided to call the authorities.

Sure enough some officials made it to the scene, where they proceeded to take a few photographs for evidence. Unfortunately, that was it, and no plans have been made to make the necessary repairs, and no one has been back since.

Locals have now taken to the local media and social networks in an attempt to highlight the problem and get something done about it. Let’s hope it works.

Pattaya slowly cleaning up spaghetti power wiring mess
Image

From North Road to Jomtien Beach, Pattaya city workers and local utility companies slowly are untangling the area’s unsightly jumbles of power and cable-television wires.

Pattaya administrators and city council members were briefed on the progress of the beautification efforts at a March 9 meeting, which showed dedicated efforts to clean up the spaghetti wire bundles that not only look bad, but often lead to fires...

Pattaya City begins multi billion baht electrical overhaul

Leading business owners and prominent figures in Pattaya alike have been told that a 3-billion-baht overhaul of the Pattaya electrical system has begun.
It is planned that the new system will be enough to support the growth of the city over the next five years.

As part of the project, 46 kilometers of overhead wiring will be moved below ground. The plan is to make the electricity supply more stable and reliable, very similar to the current system in place in Singapore.

The new system is not only aimed at improving output and efficiency, but also improving the eye-sore that both locals and tourists are faced with by the tangled net of wires we currently have now.
