Incubators?
Incubators?
What are the options for incubators that are available locally? I'm having fantasies about smuggling some eggs in and trying to hatch them.

Re: Incubators?
ask Paul, you have to get them from Vietnam. he will hook you up.
amazingly cheap and high quality.

Re: Incubators?
His is way higher quality (and bigger) than what I'm thinking. I am probably going to try this once with a dozen eggs and then give up, so I would prefer to try the rough and ready local version. I heard it involves a cooler.

Re: Incubators?
they have smaller ones.
run it through google translate
http://mayaptrungga.com/
by the time you muck around with a rube goldberg khmer device, you will buy these cheaper and get a better result.
when you are finished with it- easy to sell.
might buy it myself!

Re: Incubators?
Frankly, it would just be easier if you'd move over already, get an incubator and let me lob a few eggs in there.

Re: Incubators?
Paul might!
but 3 silkie hens would do for a small number of eggs.

Incubators?
I need to study the process; I don't know anything about it. My concern is that I'd need to get them into an incubator very soon after landing because of the temperature, so an incubator in Siem Reap would be better. Or a silkie or two!

Re: Incubators?
correct- 5-7 days at less than 25 degrees is about right.
can you get eggs from the russian lady?
a certain norman edward clark (fb) who helps landless families with HIV recently sold 13 roosters of australorp brede for $100 each.
he imported the eggs legally with a lot of paperwork.
seems CP company ( thai dominant monopoly ) don't like purebreds coming into the region.
Licensed import of hatching eggs is problematic unless you are an NGO.
a funny thing- chicken eggs into PP market are tied up by 3 0kna.
chickens are the last frontier for protein production in the developing world.
notable success as a distributed production model in africa, but but a single company is dominant locally through genetics and feed milling.
they also control most of the pork in cambo, genetics and feed.

Re: Incubators?
No kidding. I didn't realize they had any regulations about hatching eggs. Realistically, though, it wouldn't be hard to bring a dozen in your carry on and see how you go. I've never had a bag checked and it's not like they'd throw you in the slammer over a couple of chicken eggs. Right? (She asks hopefully)
I'll check with the Russian woman first and start there.
