Police confiscate road rage vehicle, as driver stays on the run
Monday, 13 March 2017

Police confiscated the car involved in a road rage incident in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district on Tuesday but failed to apprehend the perpetrator who has since fled.

Phnom Penh police chief General Choun Sovann said that police managed to track down the Ford pickup truck used in the incident but made no mention of the driver.
“I sent documents to the prosecution of Phnom Penh Municipal Court to take further legal action already,” he said.

An officer, who asked to remain anonymous, said the suspect, identified as Chea Theavy, agreed to pay the victim a $10,000 compensation but would still face criminal charges.“Even though he’s given money as compensation to the victims, he will still be held responsible in the criminal case for what he did,” the unnamed officer said.
“Police have yet to arrest Mr. Theavy after he fled his home,” he added.

Dashcam footage from the victim’s Lexus SUV, which was uploaded on Facebook, shows Mr. Theavy driving his Ford pickup truck on the wrong side of the road on Russian Boulevard, which prompts the victim to sound his horn at him.
In response, Mr. Theavy turns around and begins pursuing the Lexus before smashing its windows with a metal pipe once pulling alongside it.
Mr. Theavy attacks the Lexus a second time when it was stopped by the side of the road seeking help.

According to a local media outlet, ruling CPP lawmaker Sar Sokha, the son of Interior Minister Sar Kheng, uploaded on Facebook what he said were registration documents of the Ford vehicles. He also named the driver and posted his phone number as well.
