Well it would if they extended the 12 month E visa to the other countries!

Now THERE's a good idea. Maybe not so much for tourists, but great for expats. But even so it would encourage tourism around the region.
how does this help an expat??
it will never work as who decides who gets the money first?
thailand you get 30 days free
Laos $30-45 for $30 days depending on nationality
Burma 810 baht - $50 for 28 days
Cambodia $30 for 30 days

Report: Tourist Arrivals to Fall
International tourist arrivals are expected to fall this year due to the global economic slowdown and this will have a knock-on effect in slowing down growth in the services sector, according to a just-released Ministry of Economy and Finance report.

“The growth of the number of international tourist arrivals further slowed down to 2.6 percent in the first half of 2016, compared to 4.6 percent in the same period of 2015 and earnings from the tourism sector could possibly be lower given the expected decrease in high-spending tourists from Western Europe and Russia,” said the Ministry of Economy and Finance report, “Cambodia Macroeconomic Monitor Mid-Year Assessment 2016.”

The report, released on Tuesday, pointed out that due to a fall in tourist arrivals from affluent countries because of the global economic slowdown, the services sector will only grow 6.7 percent this year ‒ compared to 7.1 percent last year.

“Annual growth in the services, after peaking at 8.7 percent in 2014, has been on a downward path, and this trend is likely to continue in 2016. Growth in the services sector fell from 8.7 percent in 2014 to 7.1 percent in 2015,” read the report.

According to the ministry report, the slowdown was across the board in all subsectors, except in transport and communications.

The mid-year assessment report also cited Myanmar as the country posing strong competition to Cambodia’s tourism sector and said the underinvestment in the Kingdom’s tourism-related infrastructure and other support services, together with a lack of skilled human resources in the hotels and hospitality industry, further worsened prospects for the sector...

''According to the Ministry of Tourism, only 500 Cambodians had completed an Asean course on standards and service in tourism and hospitality, in order to be registered with the Asean secretariat.''

And this was paid for course with supplied test answers no doubt.

This country will be a backwards, self defeating, self aggrandizing Chins suck up for many years to come. Suits the powers that be quite nicely. $ comes in & then $ goes....

Legislation to regulate eco-tourism segment
Tue, 6 September 2016
Hor Kimsay

The Ministry of Tourism is preparing a draft law for eco-tourism with the hope that it will keep Cambodia’s tourism industry competitive while protecting the Kingdom’s natural resources and promoting conservation efforts.

According to a half-year report released by the ministry yesterday, the draft law is still in the early development stage of technical discussions. The ministry is collaborating with France’s University of Toulouse to develop the legislation, with additional support provided by Acting For Life, an NGO that specialises in sustainable tourism initiatives.

Tourism Minister Thong Khon told a tourism forum yesterday that promoting eco-tourism would help diversify options for travellers. He added that the number of tourists visiting Cambodia in search of eco-tourism destinations was increasing nearly 20 per cent a year

“Eco-tourism is a new tool to attract foreign tourists and it is a trend that should be focused on to develop our tourism industry,” he said. “Eco-tourism can benefit local people directly and play an efficient role in reducing poverty.”

According the ministry’s report, the draft law on eco-tourism would identify the necessary criteria to govern eco-tourism and support local community development...

Cambodian Eco-tourism has to be the major oxymoron of the week.

Dear tourist family, please come and enjoy the sights & sounds of nature as we tread lightly through minefields. We will paddle our kayaks through oceans of Styrofoam containers & plastic bags.
Breathe the fragrant air of the untreated sewage discharge.
View the splendor of a shoreline void of any wildlife.
Relax knowing that if you find yourself in a state of stress your tour guide is skilled in Tiger Balm application.
