I am talking about the use of the abbreviation, The Bar-B-Q term is from Texas, earliest recorded use was by a butcher there in the 1930's, but rumor has it that is was introduced by the BQ Ranch earlier on. Surely it is also meant as a shortened marketing term for the barbecue, which we all know as being introduced from Spanish.

I've been told by a quite few Texans that genuine BBQ has no sauce. What do you think.
Sauce or no sauce?

According to Harry. Rubs only. Harry has has one of those monster smokers towed behind his oversized Dodge dually 4 dr.diesel p.u. Yes it has a gun rack. Smoker looks like a big fat black pig. P.U. has a slide in camper that handles the dispensation & $ collection. I'll see if I still have a pick of his rig. He does all kinds of events. His brisket is best I've ever eaten.
I like rubs, sauces & marinates.

Bar-B-Q depends on the part of the US your in/from. Some are just rubs, some a smothered in sauce. What it comes down to is, its all good. Myself I like the way "Famous Dave's" and I do it. A rub/marinate, smoked over the fire and put your own sauce on it. I also don't care for the 'falling off the bone" overcooked style. I like it firm on the bone with lots of flavor and juices. To each his/her own.

I beg to differ. I do a 24 hour Evan Williams Whiskey/spice marinade that is to die for. (I also use the Famous Dave's style 'Devil's Spit" sauce after.) BTW/ Evan Williams was the first distiller in Kentucky. Since 1783. Jack Daniels is swill compared to Evan Williams.

And open a Starbuck or 10
Re: Why I Still Love the USA Despite Everything.
Starbuck's. Making people believe that coffee from cheap beans that are over-roasted and over priced are worth mortgaging your house to buy. In the early '70's I bartended for a while in a bar that was in the same old brownstone building as the original Starbuck's. No one ever thought coffee sales would take off like they did.
