Work Permit Possession?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Hmmmm, how do you know your employer has even processed a work permit/work book for you guys at all? Have you seen either of them?

Maybe they're just telling you all that they've done it but haven't, therefore can't produce anything when requested.

They been giving us the run around for a year now blaming the government the whole time.
Maybe it did take a year for the government to process and get them to us but as of a couple weeks ago they say they have them and we have signed them before they took it right back and are refusing to give them to us now.
I understand if they paid for them and wanted to hold on to them but all emplyees paid for their own with our own money close to a year ago.

Get an official from the MoLVT to intervene, tell them you're employer will not give his employees access to their WP's and WB's... (wishful thinking, but maybe worth a shot?).

You are right, I had them mixed up.

A work permit looks similar to a passport, with name, photo, date of birth and a few pages for stamps.
Are you confused again? The work book looks similar to a passport...the work permit looks like an ID card.
Yeah, I was! To be honest I've barely looked at the thing since I got it. I had a look this evening and it's a laminated card like you say. On the back it has a photo and various details like company, position, nationality, DOB, DOI etc.

The permit is a card and the card is a book, maybe some confusion is inevitable? :?

The labor laws here can often work in your favor. However, it would probably be better to wait till you were fired or had no other choice, as you wouldn't be too welcome afterwards. In a case like this I would be concerned that the school is just bullshitting and hasn't actually got any work permits, and have probably stung their staff for thousands. Can of worms.

^ Hahahah...all good mate, we all get a little confused sometimes :p

And good point regarding the possibility that the employer is bullshitting. OP better get on top of this if he wants to legally marry here, the MoI are pretty strict (anal) when it comes to supplying the correct documentation.

What information goes on the pages in the work book? Like if you show up late for work one day do they put that in there? I'm trying to imagine what pages of info about you would be in there.

October 8, 2014 - "Mr. GONK arrived at work at 9:13 a.m. smelling like pizza and Pontoon skank."

Just been told I have to get a work book to go with my e-visa, not a work permit, and I'm not working. Problems with being the only Barang in the village. Target for money but frustrating to be told 'you not work, we make up employer number for you' , which then means I am 'employed' and therefore need to pay for a work book......

in my dealing with these class A fuckers, they always go for the easiest route to collect coffee money, show some resistant and knowledge and they will back off a little.
