English Teacher Gary Beattie from the UK with HORRIFIC Leg Infection and Expired Visa Says British Embassy Won't Help

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Well, now Gary Beattie has taken down both his Facebook page and the page where he elicits donations.

Is he miraculously healed and no longer in need of other people's money, or are the donations not coming in like he had hoped, or what?

Seems odd that someone truly in need would just close everything down in the blink of an eye.

Well, at least he's found the best sushi in Siem Reap.

When something doesn't make sense, it's nonsense. Too many inconsistencies for me feel any sort of desire to help in this situation. The fact that everything has been deleted speaks volumes.

Well I have lived in the toilet known as Poi Pet for over 3 years now and i have known Gary all the time I have resided here.Yes, it's absolutely true about his condition with his leg, I have seen with my own eyes the gruesome infections he has. True he has turned down help before from various colleagues here as he was afraid to travel to PP with such a bad condition ( I personally paid for his sleeper accommodation, to no avail)
I can further advise all the expat community out there that he has now been granted his Exit visa last month, he flew to BKK and is now back working in Poi Pet.
To my knowledge he is an upstanding citizen who even helped me financially on numerous occasions, i know we all have a past and I really can't judge anyone on hearsay, good luck Gary in the future and please take care f yourself if your reading this
I don't see to much of him nowadays as I've got my own English centre to run, and have a 1 month old baby boy to look after too.
Please don't misjudge Gary with harshness over his past, we all make mistakes. The only Gary I know is a kind, warm gentle person who fell on hard times at the wrong time of his life.
Now you have your visa mate, so make the most of the rest of your life

Thanks for updating us. Very kind of you to help someone out in desperate times, regardless of their past.

So a happy ending?
