Sorry to hear about such a fatality, especially when it could have been so easily preventable. I have been driving a m/c in Phnom Penh for 20 years and lost count of the number of mangled motorcyclists i've seen on the road. Most of the riders were young and had no helmets. The one serious accident I had was a "tailender". My helmet was a real mess, but my head much less so! I think it was the best and cheapest life insurance I ever bought.

Jason, my friend who died on the weekend, would have lived if he'd been wearing a helmet too. There really is no excuse whatsoever for not wearing one.

Sorry to hear that, an ex girlfriends brother got knocked of his friends bike 6 or 7 years ago. He was on the back, had no helmet. He hit his head on the pavement, but thought he was ok. In the evening he went to the hospital feeling dizzy and died that night. He left a wife and two young children, one only a few months old. Very sad.

Thanks; I'm sorry for your ex-girlfriend's brother too... though I am sorrier for all the people that they (all 3 of the deceased in this thread) left behind.

That's scary. Think you've made it, then slip into the dark hours later.

Condolences to both.

Very sad to hear anyone going out that way, much less someone so young. I feel for her family when they got the devastating phone call.

Head injuries aren't something to fuck around with. All concussions need hospitalization because what usually kills you is the swelling and internal bleeding, which won't show up for several hours.

I've moved to a full-face helmet for scooters because I've seen people smash their jaws and teeth to pieces after going over the handlebars. Dental work is the fastest way to throw away cash trying to make yourself look even average again.
