My last job in Oz as a trades assistant I was getting $35/hr, anything over 10 hrs and Saturdays was paid at time and a half. Sundays, night shifts and public holidays were double time. Working 12 hr shifts, FIFO, 3 weeks on/1 week off (2 weeks day shift/1 week night shift). Qualified trades persons starting rate was $45/hr + depending on the trade. I was making bank, for minimal actual work, free accommodation and meals, uniforms and necessay tools and equipment all supplied, flights paid for...only money I'd spend whilst at work would be on beers and ciggys...shame that project came to an end.

how does a non Australian get a job in Australia anyway?

I believe less than 10% of what BKK says
52AUD an hour for a 11 hour day
.= 6 days that's $3,432 :please:

Legal jobs I have seldom made more than $25/hour and my 1st job was $5.25/hour+ commission ( shoe salesman at Sears at 17)
Head chef in Aspen i was making $450/week for a 30 hour week, ski patrol 48 hour week $350/week but free sking :-) and the ladies LOVE ski Patrolmen :beer3:

but there are more than legal jobs in the world :thumb:

Did BKK really start this thread; [Khmer440 link removed.]

I did FIFO for 3 years, and 3 months work/3 months in Camb for the three years before that. You earn good money in Australia but you sure work for it. I gave up 100k a year to teach here for less than 20k and I haven't looked back since. People boast about the money they are earning in Aus, but they are usually miserable.
