Re: Marrying a Cambodian woman. Is it difficult?
I know multiple couples that have done it and as far as I know and what I have talked with local lawyer who handles these cases, it's totally legit. But you are correct that if you fly just for that, then of course doing it here is probably cheaper. But you might want to legalize it in your home country too so to do that, you would need fly too.PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2017 7:51 pm Saves $$$ by flying to your home country to do it...if it costs about $500 for the couple to fly to the foreigners country return, with accommodation, meals and any other associated costs, as well as the issue of getting the Cambodian partner a visa...then by all means do it that way.
Then you're still going to have to have a party here to appease your partner and their family.
And there is no guarantee that your foreign marriage certificate will be recognized here and a local one issued... I have only heard of one recent case of this happening recently as reported on K440, and even then I'm not sure it's even legally binding as it doesn't appear that it was approved by the MoI.
If you've got your head screwed on, got all your paperwork in order, have patience, and can follow my guide then it's only going to cost you appx $500 to do it in Cambodia. It really isn't that difficult, as proved by the nearly 20 couples I am aware of who have followed the guide I posted and have successfully married legally and officially in Cambodia.
Even if you don't make $2500 p/mth, an official looking letter from an "employer" will work, the MOI do not check.
However, if you're 50+ years of age, then you're shit out of luck...not sure why anyone that old would bother getting married (again possibly) anyway.

Now you're just trying to talk yourself out of it. The income criteria is the least of your worries!
It seems the fact that you're 49 is an influential factor in your decision making, but you can easily work around that aswell. Now why somebody recently divorced is so keen to marry again is beyond me, but the stats and the recent poll on k440 back it up, the majority of divorcees remarry, usually multiple times!
For me it's gonna be a one shot deal; but then again I don't look at marriage in the western sense so much. There's also no bloody way in hell I would be moving to Cambodia in your circumstances ie. approaching retirement visa age, familiarity with the culture and language, etc. I would just scope out some new area in Thailand if you're 'looking for a fresh start'.

Raybull, perhaps you are missing the point? It's not that I'm wanting to rush into another marriage with a Khmer woman, but I want to get input about what my options would be IF I ever decided to marry there. On another note, I also want to know how many of you guys living in Cambodia meet decent women who you might be able to have a future with as compared to the hooker who many of you might end up with. as per your advice that I stay in Thailand, that would be difficult as, due to me getting a divorce, I would no longer be able to get the "Marriage Visa" which is a one year visa, so I think that making a fresh start outside of Thailand would be the best thing to do. The reason for me wanting to stay close to Thailand is that I have a 16-year-old son so I want to be close to him and be able to help him and be a part of his life. If I were to go back to the US, that would be very difficult to do.
Re: Marrying a Cambodian woman. Is it difficult?
Perhaps I did, my apologies. Well your options will depend on many factors that can only be determined after living here, ie. will you be well established here, speak the language, have a decent salary, Khmer social network, plain luck, etc. Don't they have a retirement visa at the age of 50 in TH?Ronny wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2017 11:47 am Raybull, perhaps you are missing the point? if u have a Half thai son u can very easy get a dependent visa to long term stay in thialand ( same 90 day non o visa as marriage ) and 1 year extension.
500,000 ( marriage extension is 400,000 ) in the bank and his BC with ur name on it are all that is required.
Retirement visa/extension starts at 50
PS; I have a Khmer gf for the past 6 years, we BOTH far prefer living here in thailand to Cambodia.

Quite easy to get married to a khmer in Singapore if ur over 50, don't need any paperwork from the embassies, just one of the parties needs to have been in Singapore for 14 days

Re: Marrying a Cambodian woman. Is it difficult?
Yes, Ray, the retirement visa can be obtained if you are 50 or older but I just turned 49. I'm just trying to get some ideas from guys like you who have been living in Cambodia for quite some time. I'm fluent in Thai (and can read and write) so what a waste! But I know that if I want to live in Cambodia it will (eventually) be essential that I can speak (and read and write it too). Any advice you can give me about where to live in Cambodia and anything that you feel is important would be much appreciated. Cheers!

If you can read and write Thai, your transition to reading and writing Khmer will be so much easier.
- many of the consonants are the same or similar in appearance (you just need to learn 'jeung')
- you're already familiar with the vowel system
- many of the words are spelt or sound similarish
Worked for me

Good advise. PSD-Kiwi. Any E-type Visa? Originally got a ordinary visa at the airport that got extended to an EB by Lucky's Moro. Will that be acceptable?

Isn't EB the Business extension ( so u should have a work permit)
while the ER, is retired extension (and so far no requirements regarding age or financials)
Seems the way to go if ur not going to work in country
