Yeah, I remember growing up in a socialist Britain where I thought things would get better and better. Then came Thatcher. I still had hope for at least one term. Then I realized it's not what most people wanted. Most people seemed to want the equivalent of pushing a stiletto heel through an OAP's eye for drawing their pensions. Then I came to Cambodia, hoping with my heart of hearts for freedom, but with some sort of sanity evolving from it. hehehehehehehehe ( insane laughter)taabarang wrote: ↑Tue Feb 21, 2017 7:38 pm JSP and WH, you have both presented a believable macro view of much that I have experienced or heard first hand where I live rurally. I wish it was otherwise but I see no reason for hope. Optimism, no matter how eloquent, will never convince me that somehow everything will be OK.

I certainly do. Even as a child, I was totally in support of it. What's the point of having a Labour government if they are going to pull the same tricks as the Tories and Liberals of the past? 5% wage caps indeed! Sounds like HE and his factory workers.John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2017 10:43 amYou don't remember the "winter of discontent" then?juansweetpotato wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2017 10:27 am

Do NOT fuck with the Rich!!!
You can fuck with the poor as much as you want though. After all, it's their fault for doing all the necessary jobs - like cleaning toilets, mining coal, driving buses, cleaning offices, working as producers in factories and other industries, being nurses etc etc etc - they just don't deserve it.

This was what you said earlier, presumably talking about the Labor government of 1974-79:juansweetpotato wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2017 12:20 pmJesus, do you really want to go down that root? You haven't a leg to stand on matey boy.
It got better and better until the rubbish was meters deep and coffins piled up un-buried. Quite the socialist paradise.Yeah, I remember growing up in a socialist Britain where I thought things would get better and better.
That also happened while there was a Labor government.People queuing for food at the Salvation Army during the Great Depression.

Bloody hell, you're blaming a Labour government for the Great Depression. You've really gone beyond the pale with that remark.John Bingham wrote: ↑Wed Feb 22, 2017 12:48 pm

I think you'd better get down on your knees Bingham and start scrubbing. Scrub like you've never scrubbed before.
By the way I'm not that old you cheeky old git.
60's and early 70's were pretty good. A milkman could own his own home etc. Compare that to the rise in inequality since Thatcher.

Re: Cambodia to grow more vegetables, reduce imports.
I thought you'd like that! It was a joke! I'm not actually blaming the Labour government for all that happened on their watch either, the economy was in a mess already. Just saying that the socialist 70s UK wasn't all it might be cracked up to be. Especially if you were from the Gorbals or Tipi Valley or Belfast etc.

Re: Cambodia to grow more vegetables, reduce imports.
back to the topic, I think it's a lovely idea, but if they were capable of doing such a BASIC thing, they would be doing it already. I mean food production is job one. Do they MAKE ANYTHING? soap? brooms? Everything I've seen seems to come from Thailand or VN.
As to ability, I've seen some clever farming pics of zucchini I think it was, grown on a grid 6 ft in the air with roots in a mound and plastic covering the non root area providing for a catch basin for any rain but more important, slowing moisture loss. So it's possible. And you know...once they see someone being successful with a practice they'll all imitate it no?
