Thai constitutional tweaks latest setback for civilian rule
New king wants changes to ensure powers, adding months to timeline
http://asia.nikkei.com/Politics-Economy ... ule?page=1BANGKOK -- Changes to a draft constitution requested by Thailand's newly enthroned monarch will likely postpone a general election planned for late this year, further delaying the long-awaited return to civilian rule.
King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has requested that "three to four issues" in the document be remedied "to ensure his royal powers," said Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, leader of the military junta, in a news conference here Tuesday. Prayuth did not elaborate further. Other sources suggest that the king has called for creating a permanent regency that would wield power when the monarch is out of the country, as well as measures allowing the king to help resolve political crises.

Now mid 2018......i seriously wonder if they ever will be held, Thailand has never been ready for democracy
An interesting observation from watching Thai tv;
New K is visiting lots of places but nobody goes to see him, Princess is also traveling and speaking and draws huge crowds.
http://www.worldbulletin.net/headlines/ ... ld-in-2017Thailand's military government maintained Wednesday that it would stick to its plan to carry out a general election by the end of this year, just days after a lawmaker indicated there could be a delay.Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan told reporters that election plans were fixed and would not be moved.
"We have a plan and we are going to stick to it. Elections will be carried out at the end of the year as planned," he said.

http://www.theborneopost.com/2017/01/06 ... arly-2018/BANGKOK: Thailand’s ruling military government said Friday a general election previously promised for this year will be postponed until early 2018, citing royal ceremonies for the delay.
A senior government source told dpa the junta’s roadmap to democracy remained in place, however the timeline needed to be “slightly adjusted” due to the cremation of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the coronation of King Rama X set to take place later this year.

Wow. As subtle as a hammer on the head. Don't tell me that the king will be spending extensive periods of time out of the country at his second home in Germany ?Other sources suggest that the king has called for creating a permanent regency that would wield power when the monarch is out of the country, as well as measures allowing the king to help resolve political crises.
(Until his father's death, he was domiciled in Germany and liable for taxes there: http://sea-globe.com/crown-prince-inheritance-tax/ )

Take your pick:phuketrichard wrote:he NEEDS travel to Germany Often for.......... ( we are not allowed to speak about it)
he NEEDS travel to Germany Often for..........
1/ Bavarian mountain air
2/Bavarian beer
3/ Bavarian sausage
[He has two houses in Bavaria.]
OR - He needs to visit his pet poodle
Whatever the reason, he will probably have to spend long periods of time outside of Thailand unfortunately, so it's very good of the military junta to agree to step up and take his place when he is away.
