Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Spurned Sihanoukville officer discharges gun: report
Fri, 28 October 2016
Mech Dara

Sihanoukville police said yesterday they are investigating a man who drunkenly fired his weapon into the air, with local media identifying the suspect as a deputy provincial police chief who was angered by a Russian woman turning down his advances.

City police chief Phoul Phorsda said the man fired the weapon in the early hours of Saturday at the Seven nightclub, but that police had been unable to substantiate a Fresh News report that the suspect was new Preah Sihanouk deputy police chief Ben Dara...

Unidentified police sources (who wish to remain anonymous) have named the suspect as Ben Dara, recently transferred from Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk as deputy police chief.(See PP article.) This is a great start and let us hope for many more entertaining news items. :thumb:

This event took place at Seven Club, at Emario Hotel & Resort located in Village 3, Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville.

Deputy Police Chief to Be Disciplined for Firing Gun

by Phan Soumy | October 28, 2016
Deputy Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Pen Dara is facing disciplinary action—but not arrest—for firing his gun outside a disco and restaurant in Sihanoukville’s Bei commune over the weekend, his boss, provincial police chief Chuon Narin, said on Thursday...

In a shocking and suprising report from the KT about police behaving badly, they say that Preah Sihanouk's new deputy police chief is on the run and is being hunted by... Sihanoukville police ... unless it was all just a misunderstanding, and he will be back on the job tomorrow. (He will probably be busy checking to see if that Russian woman has a valid WP. If I was her, I'd lie low for a bit.)

Cop Wanted for Illegally Firing His Weapon
Police are hunting for a Preah Sihanouk province deputy police chief who illegally discharged his weapon last Sunday after a Russian waitress declined his offer for sex...
The wanted officer has been named as Colonel Ben Dara, the deputy provincial police chief in charge of healthcare and education affairs. He had recently been transferred from the Phnom Penh Municipal Police...

It's inside Emario "Resort" - the big white elephant mouldy buildings on Hawaii beach before you get to Vic Hill coming from Independence. A so-called marina project; many Russians - nothing wrong with that of course - and a Chinese casino - so nothing but the best. You go in the entrance gate and Seven is inside on the left.
SM will know better than I do.

It's also the old location for that biker bar that was run by the Russian wanted by Interpol for explosives charges (IIRC). BTW, if you head into Emario and go to the beach on the right side, there's quite a few nice 'huts' you can chill at, bring food and booze yourself.

This is karma. This "white elephant" is actually a real money maker for the Japanese "fishing club" that owns it. You know the fishing club that has lots of tattoos and are know to cut off their finger if they screw up. The "marina" is actually a very successful laundry. Dirty green laundry goes in, clean green comes out. Then you have the sub-leasee, the Chinese. Lots of internet gambling with young Chinese in cubicles and computers. Last year about this time didn't the Chinese government fly a plane to Shookyville and take away about 200 Chinese doing internet scams. There are now about 60 young Chinese there working the internet.

Go past The "Marina" to Hawaii beach which is very nice (about a quarter of the land behind it is owned by my landlord.) Try the "restaurant" to the left and all the way at the end. Nice family that won't rip you off like the first few restaurants. They do a decent stir-fry squid dish. I usually get a Cambodia beer and just swim/float around the rocks.(White Rabbit to the right is ok if you really must have barrang food.) Beach is almost empty Mon-Fri. There seems to be a new bunch of jet-skis in the middle of the beach that I wish would go away.
