Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Murder on Street 132.

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

A young woman was found murdered in a hotel on Street 132.

At 4pm on October 24, a young man( aged from about 20 to 32yo according to the source) checked into O’Yes Guest House , No.C20 on the 3rd floor No. 17, Street 132, sangkat Srah Chok, khan Daun Penh. At 5pm on the same day, a young woman, aged about 25, came to join him in his room. She arrived on the back of a motorbike,( or possibly in a taxi, according to translation). Neither of these two people have been identified because they did not check-in and show their ID cards at the reception desk, but a security guard on duty at the time noted their times of arrival.

The next morning at 11:30am, the cleaner knocked on the door, and getting no reply, opened the door with the master key. Lying on the bed was the body of a naked woman. There are reportedly signs of strangulation, marks of bruising around the throat, but it was also reported that a blood-stained towel was found. These reports remain unconfirmed as police investigate. It is also reported that the young woman's belonging were stolen. The body has been taken to Wat Steung Meanchey pagoda.

Warning: Images of the dead woman.

The victim has been identified here, no name for the moment. Some news sources say she was working in a karaoke.

so how does one check in some place without showing ID?
It's always the 2nd question I get, (after: do you have a reservation?)

curious

Maybe the rules are not so strict if you're Cambodian ? Also, a lot of these dive-short-time places don't ask ID because their customers want discretion and that's why they go there. Close your eyes. It's like you never saw them. :whistler:

Sometimes they just don't ask. I would go as far as to say half the places I've stayed have never asked. Probably $20ish an night places.

I'm always surprised too.

This place is bookable on booking.com and agoda for $10 a night.

I'm guessing the guy was Cambodian, due to his young age and the fact the girl was from a karaoke place and the fact no ID was collected.
