October, you wet miserable bastard you. You can’t keep us down though, not when The Comedy Club Cambodia is bringing more masterful mirth to our shores.
Headlining the gig on Friday 21 October at Show Box is brilliant Canadian comic Brian Aylward, supported by Sam Thomas of the US and Englishman Dan Riley, with stand up Nik Coppin as MC.
Ensuring the tickets stay at the ludicrously low price of just $5 each are our wonderful sponsors: Bruntys cider, Giant Ibis buses and Buffalo Sister.
Show kicks off at 8:30pm Cambodian time.
Brian Aylward
Based on a bet made back in 2005, Newfoundland native and then English teacher Brian Aylward stepped on stage for the first time at a rowdy expatriate bar in Anyang, South Korea. Aylward went on to pioneer the active English stand-up comedy scene in South Korea, officially establishing Stand Up Seoul in 2007 and turning the country into a legitimate international destination on the circuit.
Aylward performed hundreds of shows across Asia, taking his own brand of acerbic humor to the likes of Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Thailand, and even Myanmar. Upon returning to his native Canada in 2010, Brian went on to become the twice finalist in SiriusXM Radio’s “Canada’s Next Top Comic” (2011/2013). He was also a regular fixture across Canada’s Yuk Yuk’s comedy clubs, and perform theatre tours across Newfoundland.
With an enormous presence and a consummate love for making people laugh, Aylward details his deepest frustrations with the world through his razor-sharp routines and huge sack of ridiculous stories from his travels around the world.
Brian is also the (unofficial) world record holder for the highest number of 10 minute sets in a single day, performing 21 times during the Haebangchon Festival in Seoul.
“With his commanding stage presence, Brian delivers a brand of comedy that isn't necessarily angry, as he mocks aspects of society, culture and himself, while maintaining an undeniable likeability.” The Coast (Halifax)
Nik Coppin
A stand-up comic for more than 15 years, Nik Coppin has performed all over the world and developed an international cult following. He has performed many solo shows at the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, New Zealand and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, all over Australia and the inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles, all to critical acclaim.
As well as the festivals, Coppin has made himself a worldwide circuit comedian having performed in many European countries such as Germany, Ireland, Hungary, France, Denmark and Norway. He has also frequented Southeast Asia doing shows in Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
His confident, affable and energetic style of comedy is quick to build audience rapport, as he talks about subjects as wide-ranging as human nature, his experiences in The Antipodes, Europe and Asia, his extensive knowledge of wildlife, superheroes, current affairs and his mixed-race up bringing in London.
Coppin is also the creator, producer and MC of the international and hugely popular hit show ‘Shaggers’, where comedians of all varieties and sexual orientations are encouraged to talk about their sexual exploits to hilarious effect. A spin-off of this show is the family-friendly ‘Huggers’, which has become much loved at festivals in the UK and Australia and added yet another notch in Coppin's belt having entertained small children.
“Fast and funny... the audience loved it … sweetly, wildly hilarious” Rip It Up, Adelaide Fringe
“Nik Coppin’s carefree comedy and happy-go-lucky nature are irresistible... His rapid-fire style works no matter what the audience” The Pun, Melbourne International Comedy Festival

He's on YouTube and one of his favourite topics is teaching English to Asians. This should hit home in PP. He's a pretty funny dude.
